US Lookup Requests / Patrick DOYLE and Margaret BRICE married in NYC 1855-60
« on: Tuesday 25 July 23 23:50 BST (UK)  »
Can anyone find a record on, say, FindMyPast, of the marriage of Patrick DOYLE and Margaret Ann BRICE/BRYCE at, presumably, a Catholic church in Manhattan sometime between 1855 and 1860?

Patrick DOYLE and Margaret BRICE were the parents of Jane DOYLE (later ERHARDT) - born 1864-67 - and, I think, William DOYLE, who was born c1866 and seems to have died between the two 1870 censuses.

Incidentally, I think Patrick's brother William DOYLE was married to Margaret BRICE/BRYCE's sister, Mary Anne BRICE - sister of John and Henry BRICE - who died 15 May 1854. They bore Jane DOYLE - born 14 Aug 1851, baptized at St Columba, Manhattan, 24 Aug 1851 - and Bartholomew DOYLE - born 4 Jan 1854, baptized 15 Jan 1854 St Columba, Manhattan, died 21 Jul 1874.

Hope this isn't too convoluted...

Europe / German death record 1938: Translation/Transcription needed
« on: Wednesday 09 March 22 16:37 GMT (UK)  »
Hi - Can anyone translate and transcribe this death record of Carl Heinrich Thomas SCHÖNHERR? I get the gist, but I want to make sure I haven't missed or misunderstood anything. Many thanks!

Europe / German translation / interpretation help: 1834 birth record

I just received this transcription of a birth record and can kind of understand it, but I'd appreciate a more exact translation/interpretation of it, if possible. Many thanks!

Europe / Archion lookup? SCHÖNHERR in Nossen, Sachsen, 1862
« on: Tuesday 08 February 22 22:53 GMT (UK)  »
I'm waiting for Archion to make the parish registers for Börtewitz available, but in the meantime, I wonder if someone with an Archion account could take a look and see if any SCHÖNHERRs can be found in the registers for Nossen in the 1860s.

On the Bremen Ship Crew Lists, my great-great-grandfather Carl Gottlieb SCHÖNHERR (born 1834 in Börtewitz or Kleinpelsen) gives Nossen as his home address in June and August 1862. The thing is, his wife and child were - as far as I know - living in Flensburg at the time, so I wonder if his parents - Johann Gottlieb SCHÖNHERR and Johanne Rosinne BIRCKNER relocated to Nossen at some point. It's a long shot and I'll likely subscribe when or if the Börtewitz registers appear, but my curiosity has gotten the best of me.

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / Should I "Unlock all DNA Features" on MyHeritage?
« on: Thursday 09 September 21 14:43 BST (UK)  »
I recently uploaded my Ancestry DNA results to MyHeritage and I'm not sure if I should subscribe or merely pay the onetime fee to "Unlock all DNA Features". I find that Ancestry and familysearch.org cover so much ground that I don't necessarily need more access to historical records - but I WOULD like to see who my shared DNA matches are.

Anyone sit on this same fence before?

Ireland / Rootsireland - a look-up in, or opinions on?
« on: Wednesday 06 March 19 15:00 GMT (UK)  »
I queried on the Longford board, but thought I'd cast my net wider:

Can anyone lookup baptismal records of the children of Thomas DOYLE and Rose RODGERS/ROGERS in Colmcille/Columbkille, County Longford for the years 1833-1845 on Rootsireland?

The site has transcripts for these years, but they are, as yet, missing from FamilySearch and the Catholic Parish Registers at National Library of Ireland.

Barring a look-up, is Rootsireland a worthwhile place to search for information, or do FamilySearch and the NLI cover much of the same ground?

I'm trying to piece together the family of Thomas DOYLE and Rose RODGERS/ROGERS of Rosduff, Colmcille / Columbkille. They *may* have been married in 1826 and I've found baptism records for a few of their children, but I know there are more. Any assistance would be much appreciated.

The ones I've found already are:

Bartholemew DOYLE
08 Jan 1846

Catherine DOYLE
06 May 1848

John DOYLE
02 Jun 1851

Thomas DOYLE
01 Jan 1853

Michael DOYLE
27 Feb 1856

World War Two / WWII German sailing/training ship?
« on: Tuesday 30 October 18 02:46 GMT (UK)  »
I wonder if anyone can figure out the time and circumstance of these snapshots. They come from a Flensburg, Germany, family - the father (born 1895) was a ships carpenter, the son (born 1923) was in the Seenotdienst (sea rescue service) and the Flak Artillerie of the Luftwaffe during WWII. The uniform of the man in the detail appears military, so I thought it might be on board one of the Kriegsmarine sail training ships in the late 1930s or early 1940s...but that's an uninformed guess.

World War Two / Help needed with German uniforms

The young man on the far left of the group is also the man in the second photo - born 1923. Does anyone have ideas regarding any of the uniforms depicted? Many thanks!
