Norfolk / JOSEPH BENSTEAD married in Clenchwarton in 1786 but where was he born???
« on: Wednesday 10 November 10 21:06 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

I am researching the JOSEPH BENSTEAD (born approximately 1765) who married SUSANNAH BELSDON (born approximately 1760) in Clenchwarton, Norfolk on 19th October 1786.  They had 10 children all baptised in Clenchwarton, Norfolk :

1787 Eleanor
1789 Lydia
1791 Margaret
1793 Joseph
1795 William
1797 James (died in 1797)
1798 Benjamin (died in 1799)
1800 Benjamin
1802 Amy (died in 1804)
1804 Henry

I recently made a trip to the Wisbech & Fenlands Museum to view the Clenchwarton Records, however I have hit a brick wall as neither Joseph or Susannah were born in Clenchwarton.  I am now trying to trace where they were born.  If anyone could help me or point me in the right direction I would be most grateful.

Many Thanks :)

Norfolk / BENSTEAD Family Clenchwarton area, Norfolk
« on: Sunday 22 August 10 13:48 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I am researching the BENSTEAD family who lived in Clenchwarton.  I am currently as far back as HENRY BENSTEAD born 1804 at Clenchwarton, Norfolk. He was married to Mary Bradford in 1827 and had 3 children - Susan Benstead (born 1829), Charlotte Benstead (born 1830) and Richard Benstead (born 1832 - died 1899).  His wife Mary died in 1838. He then went on to marry his second wife Esther Boothby in 1838 (she was a widow - her maiden name was Esther JICKLING they had a daughter also called Esther.  Henry was the son of a JOSEPH BENSTEAD but that is all I know.

I would love anyone who is researching Benstead in the Norfolk are to get in touch with me  :)

Thank you

Please can somebody help me ?!?

I have hit a brick wall and I am extremely frustrated  :(.  I am trying to find out what happened to my Great Aunt Emily Benstead.  I have traced her age 13 on the 1911 Census she was an inmate in the Brixton Fathereless Girls Orphanage, Barrington Road, Brixton.

On the 1901 Census she was living at 151 Stanhope Street, St Pancras age 4 with her parents Harry & Eliza Benstead and her brother Harry Benstead (my grandad).  Her Father Harry died in 1905 when she was only 7 years so I assume that shortly after that she moved into the orphanage.

Her mother Eliza Benstead Age 49, Widow (a daily cook) was living alone at 210 Acre Lane, Brixton on the 1911 census and her brother Harry Age 11 was a schoolboy at the Duke of York School, Guston, Near Dover on the 1911 Census.

She was born in 1897 in Melton Constable, Norfolk.

What happened to her after the Orphanage is a mystery to me.  My Dad's family didnt even know she existed until I discovered her on the census returns.  I cant find a death or a marriage that ties up with her and there doesnt seem to be any records as such for the Orphanage.  My theory is that she may have died as a teenager ?  I really need to find out what happened to her it sounds like a sad story.

Can anyone advise me what my next step should be?

Thank you in anticipation
