Hi,
I am trying to establish the identity of this young man. I have a relative who was an Able Seaman Naval Volunteer who died in 1915, Gallipoli, aged 22, whilst serving in the Collingwood Battalion, looking after the horses. Could this be his photo, found in a family collection? It is much faded and I cannot read what is written on his hat, nor does the writing on the reverse mean anything to me.
Many thanks for your time.

Cornwall Lookup Requests / St Morwenna Church in Marhamchurch
« on: Sunday 11 February 18 13:08 GMT (UK)  »
If anyone is visiting St Morwenna in Marhamchurch I would be grateful if you would look at the memorials on my behalf.
I’m trying to trace the Marrais/Marrys/ Marhayes family who according to Magna Britannica by Daniel Lysons, pub 1814, had an ‘ancient memorial in the church’. I realise this is a long shot but there may be a slate memorial on the south wall that, according to the listing of the church, is currently illegible. Could this be the Marrais memorial or has it somehow survived from the sixteenth century (?) elsewhere?
If any one local knows anything of this ancient family I would be very interested to learn more. Again, according to some sources, their seat, the ‘barton-house’, (I have no idea what this is) became a farmhouse owned by a Mr Richard Burden Bray in the nineteenth century. Does anyone know if this house still exists?
Many thanks in advance for your help.

Australia / Bottrell deaths in New South Wales
« on: Sunday 11 September 16 19:10 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
This is obviously a long shot as we have very little to go on!

Joseph Richard Bottrell died 1946, Kingsford and he left a living daughter and 2 sons who had died previously.  We hope to find the sons.

They do not appear on any census material I can find nor are they referenced in any newspaper articles (although their parents are.) I haven't found any baptism details either. His wife Selina Eliza died 1928 in Woollahra and it's likely that the children were born between 1900-1915 at the latest. I think they probably died as infants.

Newspaper articles show that the family were living in Leeton from at least 1916 to 1925. I don't know where they were prior to this.

Can anyone provide any leads?
Many thanks for your time,

Hi all,
My family farmed Coed yr Iarll near Jersey Marine in the nineteenth century. Can anyone tell me whether Earlswood House had anything to do with the farm?

Thank you in advance,

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / dating harvest meal
« on: Thursday 16 July 15 11:13 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
I'm attaching this lovely old photo which is now sadly faded. There is nothing written on the back of the photo. I think it dates from the 1910s. Is this about right and can anyone be more specific? We have no idea at all who these people are but the women look like sisters. But apart from that, can anyone see any clues that might help to identify the people in this group? There's a definite gender divide here!

Thanking you in advance,

Glamorganshire / Recognition of building possibly in Neath or Swansea
« on: Thursday 16 July 15 11:01 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
I'm hoping someone will recognise the decoration on the wall behind this group of men and from there we might be able to work out the occupation of the men and that might help us work out how someone on this photo fits into a family tree. The date printed on the back is 1914 and otherwise the back of the photo is blank. It's likely to be a photo taken in the Neath/Swansea area.

All ideas welcome!

US Lookup Requests / Ferguson family papers 1727-1943 New York Public Library
« on: Thursday 08 May 14 10:49 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
I'm researching the family of Jane Ferguson and James Holroyd of Halifax, England and came across a reference to letters detailing their scandalous behaviour written by cousin Martha Ferguson and Elizabeth Rawson (an in-law relationship)and Edward Ferguson (unknown relationship) written around 1797.

If anyone is visiting the New York Public Library I would be grateful for a look-up to find out the nature of the behaviour and the identity of Edward!  I live in England and it's not possible for me to visit the library. The detail can be read here:
http://archives.nypl.org/mss/18092
The letters look as if they would provide an interesting read in any case!
Best wishes,
Lemming
