Hampshire & IOW Lookup Requests / Nuname / Vuname Cottage
« on: Monday 18 August 14 14:31 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

My parents have just started to live in Nuname cottage (number 25, The Street) in Crookham village.  And they wanted to know more information on the cottage and previous occupants.

It is a Grade II listed cottage but on the English Heritage website it is named a Vuname Cottage.

I've tried searching for it on all the census but have had no luck....

Does anyone have any ideas?  I've hit a bit of a brickwall.

Also interested in what the name of the cottage could mean.

Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks,

Terri

World War One / WW1 Look up request!
« on: Tuesday 01 November 11 14:22 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Everyone,

Got a bit of a family mystery to solve and was wondering if anyone can shed any light.

A family member's father confessed on his deathbed that he had lived his whole life using a stolen identity.  And gave his children copies of his real birth and baptism certificates and said they could change their names to their real name if they want to.

We are now trying to find out more information on his family as he was actually adopted.

The information on the birth certificate is:
Born 1915 14th December at 108 My Lady's Road Belfast.
Name: Joseph Vincent O'reilly
Father: Joseph O'reilly of 108 My Lady's Road
Mother: Mary O'reilly Formally Ayrs
Fathers Occupation: Army Volunteer
Present at birth Mary McCaffrey 19 Ballarat St.
Birth Registered: 29th December 1915

If anyone could shed any light on this gentleman's military career it would be very much appreciated:

Father: Joseph O'reilly of 108 My Lady's Road
Fathers Occupation: Army Volunteer

Many thanks

Terri

Australia / James Dunnett COOK - Death
« on: Monday 08 November 10 21:38 GMT (UK)  »
A family story is that my great-great grandfather moved to Australia shortly after his wife died.

His name was James Dunnett Cook.  He was born in Caston, Norfolk around 1837.

He appears on the UK 1901 census as living with his daughter.  However, he is not on the 1911 census.

My grandmother is postive that he went to Australia with two of his brothers.  Even though he would have been almost 70.

I can been unable to find any sign of him on passenger lists nor any recvord of his death in England or Australia.

Can anyone help me please?

Many thanks

« on: Monday 08 November 10 21:35 GMT (UK)  »
I was wondering if anyone had any information on the passenger lists to Australia from England.

I have been told by my Grandmother that her grandfather left for Australia before she was born.  From the census information I can tell he left between 1901 and 1911.

His name was James Dunnett Cook born in Caston, Norfolk around 1837.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Many thanks

« on: Sunday 07 November 10 21:48 GMT (UK)  »
I spend a lot of my time in Guildford and love doing family research.

I was wondering if anyone wanted any information from there?

Even if it's a photo of a gravestone I will be more than happy to do this for you.

It would have to be in Guildford Town Centre as I cannot drive in order to get to the suburbs.

Hope this is helpful to someone.

Norfolk / William Cook Birth - Help Please!
« on: Thursday 04 November 10 20:39 GMT (UK)  »
I was wondering if anyone had any information on a William Cook.  I have been looking for several weeks now for his birth information.

I know that he was married to Eleanor Dunnett on the 10 April 1804.  However his fathers name isn't filled in on the parish register.  Neither is his age.  Most helpful as you can imagine!  Didn't these people know we would need this information one day!

Any how any help would as always be very much appreciated!

Many thanks
