United States of America / James Byrne and Margaret Duggan, California
« on: Monday 17 May 21 11:31 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
I am looking for more info on James Byrne, who per census records was born c.1868 in ireland. Here he is 1900 in California with his wife Margaret and children
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:M9G4-RXH

He died and Margaret remarried, here she is in 1910
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MVGQ-Y3S

I have come across this grave which is a possiblilty for James Byrne in 1903
https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/80002804/james-byrne
One of the photos has the surnames Weber(wifes second marriage) Amend (one of his daughters married name was Amend)
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:K98Y-HPJ
It is difficult to read the age of death but it does say he was from Dublin.

I would like to find when James Byrne came to the USA and parents if possible but as he was born in Ireland he may have come over by himself.

His wifes parents were William and Mary Duggan and she was born in Massachusetts as per census records.

United States of America / Role of Sheriff in the context of Tammany Hall politics
« on: Wednesday 30 December 20 15:17 GMT (UK)  »
I have researched an ancestor who become Sheriff of New York County in 1897-99. He was connected with Tammany Hall and achieved this position with the help of Tammany Hall. I would like to understand the role of Sheriff in 1890's New York in the context of Tammany Hall politics but I am struggling to find something definitive.

https://ncsheriffs.org/about/history-of-the-sheriff
Has a good overview but I'm still not 100% sure on the role of the Sheriff and what exactly my ancestor did DAY to DAY.

I know this is not strictly genealogical but knowing more about the person (not just names and dates) is what real genealogy is as far as I'm concerned!

Thank you.

Scotland / William Shaughnesy and family
« on: Wednesday 09 December 20 09:45 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,
I am trying to find any info on Catherine Shaughnesy born abt 1861 in Scotland. Parents William Shaughnesy and Johanna O'Donnell. I do not know what area of Scotland.

Her sister may also have been born in Scotland - Frances abt 1863

I have taken this info from the 1875 New York and 1880 USA Census.

William and Johanna would have been born in Ireland.

If I could find anything on them in Scotland it would be great.

United States of America / Banfield
« on: Monday 12 October 20 11:17 BST (UK)  »
Hello

For a while now I have been trying to find the parents of a particular "Allan" with the surname "Banfield" who died 2012 in Oregon. I think his middle name was "F". He was probably born 1947 again in Oregon.

I have created a tree on ancestry etc but to no real benefit. Maybe his father was named Frank but I dont have anything concrete.

If I got his parents names then I should be able to trace back and find the connection to one of my lines.

Any help much appreciated!

Thank you

England / Dennehy / Les lie married Kent 1925
« on: Tuesday 28 April 20 14:51 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

I am looking for the family of Patrick Dennehy born 1937 in Dartford, Kent. If I have the right Patrick he married Elena Perlorca 1956.

From a search I came across the marriage of a Patrick Dennehy and Catherine Leslie in 1925, my thinking is these could be Patricks parents. I would like to confirm some way that I have the right parents and then maybe I can get back further to Ireland.

Many thanks.
