Mayo / Kathleen Tierney & John Murphy m 1912 Castlebar
« on: Saturday 13 April 24 17:29 BST (UK)  »
Am trying to create a basic tree on these people, a descendant of whom has a 35cM dna match with me on Ancestry.

Have not done any Irish research previously and really don't know where to start.  All I have is the above marriage from the Irish Civil Registration Marriage Indexes and I believe from looking at various Ancestry trees that there were 9 children of this marriage.

In order to make any kind of connection I need to go backwards from Kathleen & John and would be grateful for some pointers on where to start.

Although I have been doing genealogy for years I feel like a complete novice here.

Thanks in advance,  Pheno

Have just experienced this - anybody else like it?  Find it difficult to determine what is going to be accepted as a hint.

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Joseph Rawlinson bapt Mar 1808 Batley - COMPLETED
« on: Wednesday 14 February 24 12:32 GMT (UK)  »
I am seeking the baptism of a Joseph Rawden b.c. 1807 Batley according to census data.  Have had no luck over a number of years.

However I have noticed that several trees on Ancestry have taken the Batley baptism of a Joseph Rawlinson on 6 Mar 1808 (birth 6 Feb 1808) as the appropriate baptism and have continued to go further back from here.

I cannot find an image of this baptism online in order to decide for myself so wondered if anybody had access to this image to determine whether indeed it states Rawlinson or something else.

I note that there is a baptism of a Samuel Rawden a bit later in 1812 in the register.

Thanks, Pheno

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / Chromosone browser for Ancestry DNA Matches
« on: Thursday 21 September 23 10:10 BST (UK)  »
Couldn't see another topic on this.

Have just received an email update from Living DNA saying that they have come up with a chromosone browser specifically applicable for your Ancestry dna matches!  You need to be a paid up member of living dna to make use of it.

Isle of Man Lookup Requests / Braddan marriage 30 June 1787
« on: Monday 10 July 23 17:19 BST (UK)  »
Is anybody able to look at the parish register for the above marriage to see if there is any other detail than the date (30 June 1787) and the fact that the marriage was between Cornelius Murph(e)y and Jane Gelling please.

Hoping for a miracle and it will give me Cornelius' father or his occupation or his native country.

Thanks, Pheno

Wiltshire / John Cable/Cabell & variants - baptism 1721 Durnford
« on: Tuesday 06 June 23 11:29 BST (UK)  »
Hi, I can't seem to fnd these registers online so wondered if anyone had access and could look for the above baptism please.

I have no idea of his parentage although lots of people have Henry and Sarah but without any sources.  Possible date only from age at death so could be a few years out.

Any info appreciated thanks.

The Common Room / GRO - Improvement or Glitch?
« on: Thursday 20 April 23 19:31 BST (UK)  »
Have just used the above to search for a birth only to discover that whether you put male or female for sex (and you have to put something) you actually get a list of both sexes that match your criteria.

Helpful, but not totally cos 5 pages isn't generally anywhere near enough to list all those with your particular surname match over a max period of 5 years.

Anyone else noticed this?

London and Middlesex / William John Clark b.c 1850
« on: Sunday 29 January 23 14:36 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, can anyone help untangle William John Clark for me please.

He is on the 1851 census (HO107/1548/333/p41) as aged 3 months with his 26 year old single mother Ann Clark, both born Middlesex. I have his birth registration at GRO as Sep qtr 1849 Shoreditch, which included both Bethnal Green & St. George in the East at that point.  I can't see another appropriate registration but this would make him a whole year older than recorded at the 1851 census. Of course, possible that he wasn't registered.

1861 (RG9/785/91/52) has Ann & John together with a visitor Esther Clark b.c. 1796 Dereham?, Norfolk.  I assume she must be related but this is the only reference I can find to her at all.

1871 (RG10/457/26/4) as a lodger with the Crump family
1871 Mar possible death of Ann Clark registered Hendon, Middx age 45

1881 (RG11/646/117/49) as a boarder in Battersea

1891 can't find him

1894 poss marriage to Annie Gill Kensington

1901 (RG13/358/78/2) as a boarder in Poplar

1911 (RG14/1125) with a son George b.c. 1896

Can anybody verify whether these are likely the same person - William John Clark (never Clarke) is a common name so some of the above could be a different person.

Any other life events?  Several Ancestry trees have him married to a Prudence Randall when he was younger with a stack of children but I am wary of this.

Thanks in advance if you can help sort him out for me.
