The Common Room / F5
« on: Tuesday 25 October 22 19:08 BST (UK)  »
Not sure if this is my computer or something new, (or even something I'd not noticed before), but the tab icon for Ancestry is now F5. (This is an icon for an internet security company.)

It is still the original "3 leaf" design on the main page but changes when I open a tree.

Anyone else seeing this?

The Common Room / Marriage Locator
« on: Monday 13 June 22 21:40 BST (UK)  »
Does anyone know if the "Marriage Locator" site is still being updated?

I find it a wonderful resource, but I can't work out if it is still being worked on.

(It would also be great to know which areas and dates have been covered so far.)

Cheers,

Family History Beginners Board / Birth and Death records pre civil registration
« on: Wednesday 22 August 18 06:17 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

This is pre Q3 1837.

I'm wondering if anyone has come across any records of birth (other than date in baptism records) or death in their searches.

I know there was no requirement to register before 1837, but I'm curious if any churches or workhouses etc issued any form of documentation for births or deaths (other than baptisms and burials).

Cheers,

Martin

London and Middlesex / Mary Ann Childs (nee Oram) Fresh eyes needed
« on: Tuesday 30 January 18 18:23 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

My GG Grandmother Mary Ann Oram (born c1837 in Oare Wilts) seems to disappear in the 1890s, presumably she died.

She married James Austin Childs 22nd Dec 1861.

I have her and her family in the 1871, 1881 and 1891 censuses. In 1901 she has gone and James is down as a widower. But I can't find a sensible death registration for her.

My guess is that she was in a hospital or workhouse when she died and the details weren't recorded correctly, but I'm hoping that fresh eyes may find something I've missed.

1891 - 50 Blackstock Road, Islington
James A Childs, Head, 50, Fancy Stationer, Southend Essex
Mary A Childs, Wife, 54, Wilts
Alfred Childs, Son, 24, Waiter, London
Katherine M Childs, Daughter, 17, Stationers Assistant, London
Percy Childs, Son, 13, Stationers Assistant, London

1901 - 32 Devonshire Road, Islington
James Austin Childs, Head, Widow, 60, Waiter Inn, Essex Southend
Alfred Childs, Son, 35, Waiter, London St Pancras
Katherine May Childs, Daughter, 27, Housekeeper Domestic, London St Pancras
Percy Childs, Son, 23, Clerk, London St Pancras

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers,

Martin

London and Middlesex / Ann Parker Brickwall
« on: Wednesday 10 January 18 22:26 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I have hit a brickwall with regards to my great great grandmother.

Ann Parker married William James Dee at the Registrar's Office Newington on the 3rd December 1866. This is the earliest record I can find for her. On the certificate it states she is 20 and her father is Thomas Parker, a French Polisher.

As yet I have had no luck in tracing her in either the 1851 or 1861 census or been able to tie her to a particular birth register entry.

In 1871 and 1881 her place of birth is Surrey Newington.
In 1891 it is London Lambeth.
In 1901 it is London Blackfriars.
In 1911 it is Blackfriars London.

Any help or ideas as to where to go next would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Martin

Dublin / Dublin marriage - advice please
« on: Tuesday 15 February 11 18:01 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I'm looking for advice as to how to find a marriage between my great grandparents in Dublin.

The only record I can find is in the 1901 census for Dublin when they have a 5 year old son. They are both down as Catholic although we thought my great grandfathers family were Anglican.

Their names were William Conway & Kate / Kathleen Dolan.

Any advice as to where to try (via web) would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Martin
