London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / Missing birth record
« on: Friday 22 September 17 20:52 BST (UK)  »
My 2 x gt grandfather Daniel Durrant was sup posed to have been born in Newington in about 1827.
I cannot find a birth or baptismal record for him.
His parents were Daniel Durrant and Sophia Chapman. He is on the 1851 census aged 15; he appears on the 1871 census living with his wife and daughter and his mother Sophia. On the 1861 census he appears living at 11 Coleshill Place but is mistranscribed .
Would be grateful if anyone can find a birth or baptismal record for him

Family History Beginners Board / Two marriage entries
« on: Saturday 02 September 17 17:20 BST (UK)  »
My 3 x great grandparents married in Ewhurst Sussex - Daniel Durrant and Sophia Chapman. On the Family Search site there are 2 entries  for their marriage dated a few days apart. On one Daniel is recorded as married on the other he is recorded as single.
Is this a genuine mistake or should I be looking for a previous marriage for him and why 2 entries with different information.

Census Lookup and Resource Requests / Missing from 1861 Census
« on: Monday 24 July 17 16:36 BST (UK)  »
Hi!

I am researching the Durrant side of my family.

My Great Grandmother Caroline Durrant was born in 1857 in Newington Surrey. Parents are Daniel and Elizabeth Durrant. I can find Daniel and Elizabeth living with Daniel's Mum Sophia. Also living with them is their daughter Elizabeth born in 1851. But James born in 1853 and Caroline born 1857 plus Louisa born in 1860 are not registered with the family. I found James as a patient in St Thomas/St Giles Hospital Southwark but cannot find Caroline or Louisa. The family are at the end of a page but the family does not carry onto the next page.
Any suggestions as to where they are would be fantastic.

Family History Beginners Board / Marriage Banns
« on: Wednesday 19 July 17 22:30 BST (UK)  »
My great grandparents posted their marriage banns in December of one year. Never married and then reposted their banns in July the following year and did then marry. Is this unusual?
Does anyone have any idea why this might happen?

The Common Room / Messenger at the War Office
« on: Tuesday 22 November 16 11:03 GMT (UK)  »
I have tried to find out what a messenger at the War Office actually did. My Great Grandfather occupation on his death in 1908 was a messenger at the War Office. Would love to know what it involved and what qualifications were needed if any. He was a regular soldier in 6th Dragoon Guards until about 1892

Family History Beginners Board / Sussex born ancestors marry in Hertford????
« on: Monday 15 August 16 15:37 BST (UK)  »
My G G Grandparents Thomas Venus born 1811 in Pevensey Sussex and Patience Cook{e} born 1811 in Chailey Sussex seemed to have married in 1834 in Hertford at All Saints and St John's Church.

I have no record of any of the family having connections with Hertford or Hertfordshire and am at a loss to see why they would marry there.

Any help and suggestions would be gratefully received.

Family History Beginners Board / family missing from 1851 Census
« on: Monday 30 May 16 16:53 BST (UK)  »
I  have two sides of my family missing from the 1851 census.
The first is Edward John Knight born in Lea Bridge Essex in about 1845 son of Edward Knight - land agent.

The second is James Isaacson his wife Sophia nee Corley and their children from Exning Suffolk

Was much of the 1851 census destroyed? Or have I not exhausted searching for either of them?
