Technical Help / Starlink problems
« on: Sunday 17 March 24 07:04 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

I am in Australia ,  So here is a internet connection Question.

my current internet connection about 4 weeks ago was via Telstra dongle wifi but connected to my computer via ethernet as I was instructed to do.
But we are not in a very good area for any of this technology to work very well   It's hit and miss and subject to weather conditions.

Then about 4 weeks ago a member of the family purchased a Standard Starlink set up on a special deal that was on offer.  The package arrived contents one Modem, Cable, and Antenna .

the person has set up the antenna  in the backyard under the rotary clothes line and placed the modem in the first available space ie the laundry.

Everyone is supposed to be able to access this setup via wifi.  I was given the name to use and a password.
I duely after some thought set it up.  the first few times I tried it it was great.
I did not disconnect my Telstra connection.

Now I have discovered that Starling is only active if the original person is home and his computer is on.  That is usually weekends.  Sometimes it works and sometimes it does not .

i have tried disconnecting and re connecting  it just is not doing what it was said to.

Is this because My computer is different to his.  could it not be properly recognising my computer. Is it set up correctly.

Anyone know anything about the Starlink setup.

Norfolk / Help neded with Mary Rudd's parents.
« on: Thursday 08 February 24 02:02 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, I have been pondering if I should ask about this person as I have little concrete detail but I decided to try.

So:-
 Name : Mary Rudd
Mother: Ann Rudd... source Marriage record --  St James Parish Register, Bury Saint Edmonds, Norfolk  1562-1800.
Marriage:  7th June  1764-1765.   [ Presume it would be 1764] source as above.
      Spouse named:  John Brundell
Witnesses: John Mornement and Bartholomew Rudd.
Further from the marriage :  both single, both of this parish,  Licence granted.  Mother of Mary gave concent thereto.

Ann Rudd was a widow .

I do not know who Bartholomew Rudd was.  There are thoughts but nothing concrete.  however he isn't Ann Rudds husband given she was a widow.
I suspect that John Mornement was ,probably Mary's brother-in-law, but I have nothing to prove this.
If that is correct, he was born in 1736 and I have most of his records and family.

I am building this part of my tree sideways and it just isn't making sense at present.

Any Info on Mary's birth and parents would be a massive step forward.

 Thank you for looking.

Suffolk / Mornement in or around Hoxne and Southery C 1700
« on: Saturday 06 January 24 06:30 GMT (UK)  »
Hi everyone,

Hoping to get help on something almost impossible.
So here are the details.  My OH's line is Mornement.  The most distsant known individual is John Mornement born 1707 in Hoxne.
We do not have his parents.  but recent info has two possibilities:

1.   A Christopher Mornement from Southery who had a son baptised as John Mornement in 1706. Christopher died apparently in 1708 in Southery.    His wife was Mary.  I do not have any more about her or them.
Anything about them would be very helpful.

2.   Stephen Moninent, widower. He married Elizabeth Wales at Ditchingham, Norfolk on 27th September 1698.
Anything about this couple would also be very helpful.

I am about to try myself as well.

thanks for anything

Hi,
I know this is a bit of a weird question as people love to find new family members. However........

I have an extensive personal tree on my private computer as most of you do.
Most of the information on that has been found by researching , not by accepting hints wily-nilly.

Foe example:  I have some relatively distant cousins whose information I have has for years. Ancestry keeps telling me that these 40 people are my family.  Yes, but I already know.   I don't need the ggt grandfather of cousin xyz's wife.

All I want to do is stop these 40 names most of whom I don't need or care about, being shoved in my face.

I can say I recognise them but Ancestry will then add them to my tree which I do not want or need.

These are not the only ones.

Any ideas on how to do this would be appreciated.

Hello.  Seems like this might go nowhere as it has an error message at the top re posting.

But here is my question....

I have DNA through both Ancestry and MyHeritage and the Ancestry is uploaded to MyHeritage.

I am currently looking at one of these matches as Ancestry has indicated that I have a 132cM  DNA connection.

Looking at all the matches for this person and others, just about every one is connected in some way to the maternal side in my Grandmother"s sister's family.

This particular match  at present does not indicate that. I have been building a tree for them around what they have on their profile.

Would It be possible for this match to connect only to the paternal side of my grandmother's sister,  that being my Great Grandfather.  I would think that the MRCA would be beyond the this point.

Thanks for any ideas

The Common Room / Marriage within the LDS communities.
« on: Wednesday 08 November 23 10:16 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,  Yes a bit confused here.
My daughter says the Laterday Saints don't marry and live as groups....  but

I am researching a person who is a child of one of my ancestors. I have some information from a number of yeas ago which has needed rechecking. Just as well, and thank goodness for Rootschat.....

The person is male and appears to have three spouses at different times.
The names are so mixed up  even on government documents that I can't tell who came first or last and who the parents were of the children.  Add to that the wives appear to also had other spouses and children to them.

Much of this occurs in San Fransisco USA but starts in England and Scotland.

Question , Was it required  by the Mormon Church for such unions to be formally recorded.   Or were these recorded as civil ceremonies by the Country Authorities. I have found nothing to help sort out when these couples were together.
Some had noted on the USA Census as divorced.   So that is even more confusing.

Sorry about the oddity in my post but it's all just too muddled .

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / Person with a matching tree but not a DNA match
« on: Wednesday 01 November 23 11:41 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Need to get some ideas about this:

My Heritage has sent me a hint about person X and their tree as it very closely matches mine.   However this person is not on my DNA match list with that company. I would appreciate a bit of advice.

My thoughts are that he has not tested but has an account and this tree. I have messaged the person but have not received an answer.    I am thinking of building a tree around this person.

Anyone any other ideas on where to start. please.

The Common Room / What happened to Thomas Taylor
« on: Wednesday 25 October 23 02:42 BST (UK)  »
Hi Rootschatters,
I am  trying to find out whether Thomas Taylor lived past the age of 6yrs.
His parents are Arthur Richard Taylor known as  Richard Taylor and Mary Ann Gallant
Married 25th November 1827  Saint Dunstan, Stepney, Middlesex, England.

This is additional to the following thread:
https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=876125.0

Richard Taylor and Mary Ann also had Elizabeth B  Taylor 1837 as on the previous thread .
Then   Thomas  Taylor 1839     Gro Ref. Sept Qt  Shoreditch, Vol 02 Page 389  MMN Gallant.
Edward Taylor  1841    died 1842   Gro Ref for both events known
Charles Taylor  1843  Died 1845      Gro Ref for both events known.

I have been trying to find out whether Thomas reached adult hood and married.   If so did he have descendants.

Reason for asking is - l am looking for Taylor descendants for matching with DNA Results.
I am already looking into Elizabeth Byzanta Taylor's children for the same purpose.

Any  help would help me and a couple of other Auzzies.
Thanks in advance.
