I would be very grateful if someone can improve this photo of William Edward Freeman of Garston, Lancs. Killed in Action in France 1917.

I've gone as far as I am able with this photo given my very limited Photoscape app,but can someone provide some sort of background for this pic? Ideally,an old brick wall type of thing would be in keeping,as Peter was a young boy from Garston,Lancs....I don't know if this is too big an ask,but you never know.

Can anyone possibly help me with this photo? I've been trying my hand at some simple restoration (I use a very basic thing called Photoscape) but I've come unstuck with Charlie's face,I can't get any further without it looking like pizza...I'd be extremely grateful if someone can rescue it.

Can anyody enlighten me as to the letters indicated in red on the image? (I'm assuming the one immediately next to it is an ampersand?)

World War Two / Great Uncle Denis Davies-R.N WW2.
« on: Saturday 05 June 21 17:11 BST (UK)  »
I'm drawing a complete blank searching Ancestry for any info re my wife's g.uncle's naval service. I have his service number-Gunner JX.254472.I'm told that he was in England until c1942 (perhaps spending time at Chatham) and was then possibly posted to India.
It has been suggested to me that his hatband bore the name H.M.S.Raleigh.
Any further information would be terrific and gratefully accepted.

World War One / Request for help re-Samuel Cockram.
« on: Wednesday 19 May 21 17:28 BST (UK)  »
I'm seeking info re the military service of my ancestor Samuel Cockram (various spellings encountered),my subscription with Ancestry doesn't allow me to see the attached info, which is confusing/frustrating me to some degree. The 1911 census is my man,and I thought I could have been on the right track, but need confirmation re home address,or any personal details. However when looking at the details on the screencaptures, there are that many reference numbers etc my head is swirling, and to boot I can't figure out if the man referred to died or survived the war??

I'm hoping to find out if there is anything to be gleaned from the attached medal card,I'm out of my depth to be honest,so any help would be gratefully accepted.

It would be nice if this photo of the young Neil could possibly be corrected before his funeral on wednesday,it is the only image I have and was contemplating trying to do something myself, but am daunted by the poor condition.
I hope the resolution etc is adequate for restoration, and if wednesday is too tight a time limit,if anything at all can be done, however long it takes is fine.
