The Common Room / Death in Childbirth
« on: Wednesday 14 August 19 12:00 BST (UK)  »
I have a family member, quite distant, who died in childbirth. I can find no record of any child being born at the time of death. Could it be that the baby died at the same time and was never 'born'? I know where she is buried and the records only show her as being in the plot. Her details are: Harriett Duddridge (not Dudderidge) Born 1896, died 19th July 1930 aged 34. Her husband was present at the time of her death, so I assume its unlikely that the child would have been immediately adopted. They had 14 children between them, four of whom died, so they were doing quite well!

Occupation Interests / Company History

Does anyone know of a resource to find out when a company/business was formed?
I am trying to find out when a company/business was formed but have hit a brick wall for information. I have narrowed it down quite well from Kelly's Directories and old newspaper adverts etc. The name of the company in question is Anderson and Wall of Bridgwater, Somerset. I have one piece of information which says that the company statement declares 1918 as the date established but with no evidence (what does this mean?) I am at a loss as to where this information was sourced. The only person that could have shed light on this has long since died. There are several references that the partnership was dissolved in different years but this seems strange as the partnership continued for some time. The earliest evidence I get is that in a newspaper of 1924 where the advert appears for the first time in July of this year. I know that the proprietors had been trading in their own right.

Anyone able to identify the regiment from this photo. It's all I have I am afraid. It is post WW2 so I hope it's ok to ask here. The soldier was in Korea during national service days.

World War One / Soldier not found
« on: Saturday 01 July 17 20:43 BST (UK)  »
I cannot find a soldier who died of wounds in Salonika. I have searched all the war graves in Greece as well as WW1 records. He is reported in the local paper dated 12 June 1918, so his death would have been around this time.  "Local soldier dies of wounds. Sapper Albert Baker Royal Engineers, died as a result from wounds received in action in Salonica." Could he have been repatriated? Any clue would be most helpful. The reference to 'local soldier' would be Bridgwater in Somerset.

I have on a Medals Record Card 'D of Dis' Would I be correct in assuming that this means Died of Dysentery? Date of death I know and is recorded as 14 Sept 1916.
