Canada / Edmund (Edmond) JOHNSTON 1820-1882
« on: Sunday 31 May 20 17:38 BST (UK)  »
Hello Rootschatters, I hope you are all keeping safe and well in these strange times.

A couple of years ago I posted a message on the Chicago page about this great great uncle of mine.  He was born in Ireland, son of Benjamin Johnston & Catherine nee Graydon. He died in Cook, Chicago in 1882. However, he left Ireland in 1837 on the ss George Washington, stopping in New York, bound for Canada.
I have since discovered that he had a daughter , Isabella M. Johnston, who married Warren S. EDES in Nov 1871 in Chicago.  Isabella was apparently born in 1851 in Belleville, Hastings, Ontario. She was Edmund's second daughter.  She died in 1931 and is buried in La Grange,Cook.

I have also found Edmund's wife's death, in La Grange, Cook, Chicago in March 1893. Anne nee Summers.  She was aged 70, born in Edinburgh, Scotland.

I cannot find any information in the Canadian records available... Did Edmund & Anne marry in Canada?  I cannot find Isabella's birth in Belleville.  Or her elder sister??

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
Best regards, Liz Augereau,

Hello to all rootschatters!
Some time ago, I posted a message about my great grandfather Issac Johnston on the Co Armagh page because he lived there.  However, according to 1901 and 1911 census he was born in Co Tyrone. His birth date would be 1857....  I wonder if it is possible to obtain his birth certificate.  I am looking for his mother's name.  Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

United States of America / Frances Beamish & John B. Wolfe Connecticut
« on: Thursday 04 May 17 09:55 BST (UK)  »
Hello rootschatters!

My great grandfather's sister Frances R. BEAMISH (sometimes known as Fanny) married John B. WOLFE on 5th April 1894, at Kilmacabea, Cork, Ireland.
They emigrated to America, and I have found them on the ship Campania which arrived in New York on 16th April 1894. The document says that their destination was CONNECTICUT.
John was a storekeeper.
I have also found death of John B. Wolfe in 1926, in New Haven , Connecticut.
There is also another J.B. Wolfe death in 1926 in Mapledale Cemetery ...
I can't find anything on Frances...
Can anyone help me to find this family - I would like to know if they had any children etc etc.

Many thanks in advance,
Liz Augereau

Antrim / John Johnston of Ballymacarrett (1780-1823)
« on: Friday 02 September 16 07:46 BST (UK)  »
Hello everyone!
The above JJ was my great x2 grandfather's brother.  He was born about 1780 in Dublin, son of Benjamin Johnston & Catherine nee Graydon.  I don't know when he moved north... apparently he was in the Linen Trade with his cousin Jonathan Sisson, I have never been able to confirm this.
He married a girl called Anne or Anna, perhaps in Dublin , perhaps in Belfast - I have never been able to find her maiden name nor the marriage...  She died in 1820 and is buried in Clifton St cemetery, Belfast (there is no detail of her maiden name).  They had a son John born about 1815 but I have no other information.  Their daughter Anna married Rev Benjamin Maturin .  Another daughter Margaret died young.
John married secondly Agnes Gemmill in Rosemary St Presbyterian Church Belfast in 1823.  He died in 1833 and is buried in Clifton St.
I realise that I have quite a lot of info but I would really like to find John's first marriage & his wife's maiden name ... and something about his son John ...
Many thanks in advance for your help, Liz Augereau

Monaghan / Henry Vassal JOHNSTON
« on: Saturday 06 August 16 19:17 BST (UK)  »
Hello everyone,
I am lucky to be in Ireland for a few weeks and hope to go to Ballybay Co Monaghan to look for the grave of the above, my grandmother's brother.
Henry was born on 30th April 1889 at "Gorse Hill", Ballybay and died in February 1891... he is possibly buried in Ballybay, my great grandfather Benjamin Johnston was working at the Bank of Ireland when his son Henry was born.  I have never been able to find a birth cert nor a death one.

My grandmother was born in Dundalk in April 1892, so perhaps the family was already living there in 1891, so Henry Vassal Johnston might be buried in Dundalk.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Hello everyone !
I am looking for one of my father's first cousins, the above Alice Sandes nee Crosbie, who died in Fishoek, Cape Town on 20th October 1932. Her full name was Margaret Lucy Alice.
The family has always said that she was buried in Muizenberg cemetery but her name does not appear in the records.  Perhaps she was buried in another cemetery in Cape Town ?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Many thanks in advance.

« on: Thursday 16 July 15 09:23 BST (UK)  »
Hello everyone !

I hope to be able to get to Stranorlar next week and would like to find graves of this Johnston family.
Dr HMJ died in 1932. His son Victor is probably buried in Stranorlar too.  I know the family was Church of Ireland but they may have attended the presbyterian church too... How many graveyards are there in Stranorlar ? I would really appreciate any help so that when I get there, I know where to look !!!

United States of America / Edmund Johnston, Cook County , Illinois
« on: Monday 25 May 15 11:15 BST (UK)  »
Hello everyone !
My great great uncle, Edmund Johnston, was born in Rathdrum, Co Wicklow, Ireland in 1818.  He died in January 1882 in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois and is seemingly buried in Forest https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:N7HB-LXQe Cemetery.
The document indicates that he was married - I haven't been able to find any details at all.

I did find an Edmund Johnston, aged 19, Agent, born Ireland, on his way to Canada with a stop in New York travelling on ss George Washington on 28th August 1837.  The dates would fit ...
Also, I found an Edmund Johnston born abt 1845 in Illinois, who could be a son, married to a Martha Boone.  Issue :  4 children , youngest of whom is another Edmund.

I would be very grateful of any help, as the above just may be a lot of coincidences !
A thousand thanks in advance, Liz
