London and Middlesex / Re a parish Marriage: What is a slip index exactly?
« on: Monday 15 November 21 00:21 GMT (UK)  »
I have found a Fulham marriage in 1819 for Ann Ledgerwood and John Gray on Find My Past that is not on Ancestry.

It is on the 1813-37 Slip Index which is part of the Greater London Marriage Index.

I think it was compiled by Cliff Webb through the West Surrey FHS.

My question is what is a slip index?

Thank you.

The Common Room / GRO Marriage Certificate: How long to receive?
« on: Wednesday 06 October 21 04:12 BST (UK)  »
I know there are delays with COVID and family history is not a priority for certificates and less staff operating at present, but I am wondering how long is to taking to receive or dispatch certificates currently by post?

I ordered a marriage certificate in late August.

I am in Australia.

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / Not recognising LORD surname in matches
« on: Thursday 20 August 20 03:05 BST (UK)  »
Many of my close family have kindly tested for me on Ancestry DNA. We have a prevelance of the surname LORD on our tree. I know in England this surname is particularly common in the counties of Yorkshire (as was) and Lancashire.

Yet when I type in surname Lane and birth location Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia I get multiple matches to the descendants of Charles Lane and Ann Lord! For those that have public trees LORD is written down the bottom as one of our in-common names.

I could pick before as to specifically Lordís in Yorkshire or Lancashire for my Tasmanian-UK connection. Now I get none.

I have checked with some Tassie related Lord descendants and they are also getting none, even though the matches still exist!

The Common Room / Ancestry messaging problem
« on: Wednesday 29 July 20 23:18 BST (UK)  »
I have a problem with the Ancestry messaging system. The envelope icon on the toolbar says that I have 3 messages, yet there are no new ones. Nothing received via personal email either from Ancestry. Have contacted Ancestry via Feedback in new messaging system, but no reply back. Has anyone experienced similar?

Northumberland Lookup Requests / Ann Hogg baptism c. 1802
« on: Wednesday 17 July 19 03:41 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to work out DNA results to people in USA of same descent with shared matches. Trying to see if there is any baptism for an Ann Hogg c. 1802? Place of birth on Census under married name Burnett is Spittal, Lowick or Bowsden. Husband said to be Oswald Burnett.

Hogg could be the in common surname - if I can work out back from Ann.

Related to two direct convict ancestors with the surname Lord. New Beta system was not picking up ANY of the matches yesterday. I have access to a lot of close family members DNA results. Today it is only partially picking them up. Could be missing a lot of potential hints. Very poor system.
Did pick up with previous system. Not even recognising my mother or aunts as having this name per my own tree! it is linked to their results.
Also, picking up with this name in username but not necessarily in their tree.

Hampshire & IOW Lookup Requests / Charlotte Lane baptism c. 1812 Isle of Wight
« on: Monday 03 June 19 11:31 BST (UK)  »
I am wondering if my Lane family (Somerset-based) is connected to the family of Charlotte Lane born IOW c. 1812. I cannot find a baptism, so am unable to work backwards.
She married a James Jeram.
1871 England Census gives a birthplace of Cowes.
Purely interested in working backwards from her, if possible?
This follows a DNA match and shared matches indicate this as a possible surname.

Australia Resources & Offers / Nursing Records PROV
« on: Saturday 27 April 19 05:31 BST (UK)  »
Has anyone ever accessed any of the following nursing records at PROV (or similar):

VPRS 16407 - Royal Victorian Trained Nurses Association Nurses Register (1901 - 1930)
VPRS 16408 - General Nurse Register (1924 - 2001)
VPRS 16364 - 'Early' General Nurse Record Cards, Alphabetical (1924 - 1957)

Do you know what sort of information is provided on their background information?

The Common Room / No relationships shown on Ancestry anymore?
« on: Wednesday 03 April 19 07:48 BST (UK)  »
Ancestry used to show the relationship of the home person to the person on the tree. This option seems to have disappeared?
Am I missing something, or is this gone?
