South Africa / What is 4,00 Rand?

Hi

I have just received a quote from the Western Cape Archives and Record Service:

"Copies of the relevant document will be supplied on receipt of payment to the value of R4,00 (R1-
00 per image)"

I am trying to convert this to (Australian Dollars) AUD and it seems like it is only $0.32 AUD today.

I am confused by the comma 4, 00 and not familiar with the currency.

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / My Heritage error message too many views

Over the past two days, I have repeatedly received two different error messages when viewing DNA matches:

ERROR

"You have reached the maximum number of DNA matches that can be viewed per day. You can continue viewing more DNA matches tomorrow".

I have a subscription. What??? The same on my iPad or PC.

South Africa / South African records with images on Family Search

I just wanted to let people know that there are some really great South African records on Family Search now with images.

Yesterday, I found baptism, marriage and death, and probate records - an absolute bounty. I was really thrilled. I never thought I would see the marriage record I was looking for as was previously found by an RC member via a look-up.

I am not sure how long these records have been available, but I would advise checking on free Family Search first before you pay for an alternative South African-based ancestors site.

The Common Room / Gremlins in the system with Ancestry or is it me?

It is that old chestnut of the Ancestry messaging system. Received a message yesterday with no red dot flashing above the message icon and no email notification. I just noticed it when I went into messages. I also see they have logged on since I replied but it doesn't seem as though they have read the message.

My profile page will also not save any of the Family History Experience. It will save any of the other details on the page. I have tried different devices to no avail.

I can no longer view images others have saved on my iPad.

Northumberland / GRO question re Mary Pringle

I ordered an original copy of what I presume is my 5x Great Grandmother's death certificate in 1849 from the Northumberland County Council only to find it was exactly the same as the GRO one I already had. The handwriting is exactly the same.

I ordered it as her age varies so much from the 1841 Census, by 28 years. Mary Pringle lived in Amble in 1841.

So does GRO also sometimes scan the originals rather than someone copying out the details when you order?

So baffled about her age and I do not know her maiden name.

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / Bonnitcha DNA matching

I am very interested in my Tasmanian ancestry.

Nine close family members have tested to help fuel my interest. Out of these four of us have matching 7-8 people who have the nearest common ancestor of Nicholas Bonnitcha who is thought to have emigrated in 1856. He married in Hobart in 1858. Born 1835, per Nationalisation papers.

My mother, aunt, first cousin, and I match. My cousin has slightly higher CM's (more in the 20 range across one segment) and shows shared matches, even though I match all of them and a couple more. There are also three Canadians who match.

I cannot fathom how we could also be related to him.

I am trying to access Record Search-Name Search on the NAA is anyone else having trouble accessing it?

England / Trouble accessing GRO PDF certificate

I received an email to say that my birth certificate was available via PDF through the General Register Office. I went to MY ORDERS but for whatever variation, I type in I get some form of error message.

For example,
COL Number must be numeric
Only the last 3 months of order history are available, please enter a different COL Number Year

I have ordered PDF documents before, but not for a while. I have no idea what I am doing wrong. I am cutting and pasting the numbers and leaving out "COL".

I have reported it, but if anyone can HELP in the meantime

Australia / District Code use NSW BDM

Has anyone noticed this?

I have noticed that a three number district code now appears on the later deaths indexed at NSW BDM. I have attached an example. I know there is a list of Early Church Codes but there does not seem to be any explanation for the district codes.
