Herefordshire Completed Look up Requests / "Colabra" Leominster
« on: Sunday 23 August 15 23:44 BST (UK)  »
Looking through some old family albums with my husband’s cousin we came across this photo captioned “Colabra”  Leominster. Their grandmother was from Leominster but we don’t think this was her home.  Can anyone in the area recognize this house?  Is it still there and/or know where it is/was?  Judging by the other photos in the album it probably dates from the period 1890-1920.

Many thanks.

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Make this Scottish Soldier clearer?
« on: Thursday 06 February 14 22:44 GMT (UK)  »
Tried to post this earlier but omitted to put Subject!  Apologies, especially if it appears twice.

Already posted this photo to WW1 forum as trying to identify regiment.  The folks there are mainly of the opinion that he's a  Seaforth Highlander but if it could be sharpened up a bit to see the sporran badge, hose tops and other insignia it would be a great help.

Many thanks.

Many thanks.

Durham / Robert CARVER born Sunderland 1829?
« on: Monday 21 January 13 15:39 GMT (UK)  »
I'm looking for any information on Robert Carver born around 1829 probably in Sunderland.

All I have so far is that he was a Mariner who married Sarah Wallace at Horton Church on 3 April 1850 while they were both living in Cowpen Quay, Northumberland.  I have the marriage certificate which states he is of full age and his father is Walter Carver, a Glazier.  Sarah was born in 1833 in Sunderland, and in the 1851 census is still in Cowpen on her own (presumably Robert is at sea).  In 1861 she is living in Sunderland with her parents Dent and Margaret Wallace and her son William George Carver born 1852.  She is down as married rather than a widow.  I know she remarried in 1866 to John  F Carr.

I can find no other records for Robert Carver, not any for his father Walter.  It may be they are not from the North East at all.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Somerset / Bartlett in CHARD
« on: Sunday 20 January 13 16:05 GMT (UK)  »
I am looking for any records of John Bartlett born about 1795 in Hardington, his wife Maria, surname n/k born Lyme Regis about 1796 and their 5 children George, John, William, Charles and Robert all allegedly born in Chard between 1822 and 1838 and all with the middle name Domett.

They are in the census from 1851 onwards in Hampshire, 2 eldest boys in London, all in the timber business, but cannot find any records of them before that.   If we could find out Maria's maiden name and/or any marriage and baptism records it would be a help.  We are trying to discover the connection to the Domett family of Hawkchurch.

Any information appreciated.

Thanks, Leo
