« on: Tuesday 12 July 22 14:07 BST (UK)  »
I am doing research into Samuel Arnott (1852-1930) and understand that he was gifted a house Loveland, Castle Douglas Road Dumfries by Mrs Hope-Henderson of Afgaty near Doune. Although I have been told this was the case I have no substantive proof. If anyone can assist me with documentary proof it would be greatly appreciated

I have been seeking information on the above in Kirkcudbrightshire but have now followed his move to Dumfries. According to one report he was given a house Lovelands, Castle Douglas Road Dumfries by Mrs Hope-Henderson of Argaty , near Doune. I have been unable to verify this as the Valuation Roll for 1930 shows the house transferred to Samuel's widow but I cannot find it in earlier Rolls. In addition while Scottish People have done their best to assist they have been unable to locate any information.

I am at a loss as to  how to proceed. Any suggestions would be most welcome

I am researching Samuel Arnott (1852-1930) and have information on his political career and also his work as a botanist. I note however that some reports claim he was a scientist but cannot verify this, so any evidence to support this claim would be most welcome. I also have not been able to establish where he  was buried as I have not been able to gain  access to the library records at present. Finally could anyone confirm that Arnott Terrace in Troqueer is named in his honour. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated

Trying to find my childhood friends Jamie and Robin MacTaggart and wondered if their deaths were recorded in Hawick Cemetery's. Jamie, , as far as I can remember was killed when taking part in a TT Race in 1967 and would be born in 1942. His brother Robin emigrated to South Africa and may be a Robin MacTaggart born in 1941 and died in 1981.

I wonder if anyone can help me with information on the above. I know that he was born in Dumfries in 1830 and died in Edinburgh in 1908. He was an advocate and I have reason to believe that he was a poet and friend of William Morris. I think that he would be involved in philanthropic works but have not been able to trace these because of the library lockdown. I did find some connection with the Edinburgh Mission but no substantive information. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
