Laois (Queens) / Nolan Family
« on: Friday 02 September 16 11:42 BST (UK)  »
My grandfather Michael Nolan was married on the 12 Jan 1890 to Mary Ann Toole in Dalkey from the marriage certificate I can see his fathers name is also Michael Nolan and one of the witnesses was a John Nolan.
It was not until I saw the parish record of the event that I found that this showed both parents for Michael being Michael Nolan and Mary Robinson and they lived in the Lucan area of Dublin. The address for John Nolan was also given as Eskey, Lucan.
I then searched the 1901 and 1911 census and found a Mary Nolan (widow) living with two daughters Mary and Catherine.
I also found John with his wife and family on the 1901 census and have obtained their marriage certificate from which I have found his parents to be Patrick Nolan and Rose Caulfield. From the age shown on the census is John a brother to Michael or a cousin?
I have not been able to find a marriage for Michael Nolan and a Mary Robinson but I have found a marriage to an Anne Robinson on the 19 April 1856 in Arles, Killabin, is this the same person?
I have found 7 baptism records for Michael Nolan and Anne Robinson but is this the same family? Children from baptism records being James (b1858), John (b1862), Michael (b1865), Christy (b1868), Mary (b1870), unknown male (b1864), William (b1873).
Michael Nolan was baptised on the 1 September 1865, parish shown as Arles, I have also found the Civil Birth record showing he was born 26 August 1865 parish shown as Ballylinan.
A William Nolan married a Kate Robinson on the 25 August 1859 in Arles Killabin, is this the same family? This would make William an uncle to my Michael.
The 1911 census shows Mary as a widow but she states she was married for 32 years and had 7 children.
If anyone recognises any of this to confirm it is the same family I would appreciate any feedback.

Dublin / Dublin United Transport Company - DUTC

My grandfather Michael Nolan from the years 1890 to 1901 had an occupation shown on various marriage, birth, census and death records as Coachman and Tram Driver mainly in the Dalkey area. By 1901 his occupation (on a birth certificate of one of his sons) was shown as Historian DUTC. Does anyone know of any information relating to what a Historian DTUC would have done and is there any records, books that will give any further information?

Sligo / Hart family - Sligo
« on: Sunday 24 May 15 21:40 BST (UK)  »
1851 Census (Irish) - I have come across an extract request on the Find my Past site from a John Hart in August 1920. The extract shows the father as Michael Hart, mother as Bridget Hart (nee Morrison) and children Dennis, Patrick and Catheline. This last name may of course be spelt incorrectly and may be Kathleen or other similar sounding name.

My question is why would John Hart be making this request in 1920?

The John Hart I am aware of in my family tree was born in about 1860 in Curry Co Sligo and had moved across to England by 1890 in the Lancaster area (married 1891) and later to West Hartlepool before returning to Lancaster.

What I also would like to work out is whether this information is directly connected to my family.

Any help gratefully received.

Dublin / Nolan / Toole family
« on: Thursday 23 October 14 19:25 BST (UK)  »
Michael Nolan and family (wife Mary Ann Nolan nee Toole, Anne Mary Nolan and Michael Thomas Nolan) lived in Englinton Terrace Donnybrook during the years 1890 - 1893 before moving to Sorrento Road Dalkey where they had 5 other children (John Joseph, William Patrick, Peter Joseph, Margaret and Gerrard).

In Englinton Terrace there was another Nolan family, James Nolan who was a police constable - does anyone know whether the families were connected. Possibly Michael and James were brothers.

Any information gratefully received.

Does anyone have any information of the Hart family in Sligo. John Hart was born about 1858 in Curry in about 1858, his father was a Michael Hart. The surname may be spelt with an 'e'.

By 1891 John Hart was in Liverpool as he married there.

Any information would be useful.

Anyone aware of the family of Mary Ann Toole, born about 1864, died in Oct 1913 and was married to Michael Nolan. She was born in Wexford. Her father's name was John Toole and was a farmer.

Michael Nolan's father also called Michael I think married a Jane Mooney and lived in Wexford and Dublin.

Dublin / Richard Altamont Smythe
« on: Sunday 02 January 11 22:11 GMT (UK)  »
My grandfather Michael Nolan worked as a gardner for Richard Altamont Smythe in a house in Killiney, south of Dublin around 1920. My grandmother (Bridget) would also have worked in the house at the time and my father was born there in 1917.

I am wondering if anyone can give me more precise details of the family at the time as this would have been my grandfather's second marriage and there had been 6 children of the first marriage.

Does anyone have any photgraphs of the house at the time - Court-na-farragh in Killiney. I would be interested if there are any existing of the staff as I do not posses any pictures of my grandfather.

I am looking for any connection to Michael Nolan born in Queens County in about 1870, this detail comes from the 1901 Census when he lived in Dalkey.

Want to find when he was born, his father also called Michael bur want to find details of mother.

He died in Liverpool in 1925 aged approx 55.
