Family History Beginners Board / John Rigby birthplace
« on: Friday 11 November 22 18:56 GMT (UK)  »
I'm trying to find the birthplace and parents of John Rigby (c1805-1865).  He married Hannah Law in 1824 in Barnsley, Yorkshire and Census records show his birthplace:
1841 - aged 35 born Yorkshire (with wife Hannah 35 and children Margaret 13,  Sarah 9, James 7 and John 3)
1851 John 47 born 1804 Barnsley, Yorkshire
1861  John 59 born 1802  Scowes Lancashire
It is the 1861 place of birth that differs from the other 2 censuses and I'm not sure why.
Any help to find a record of his birthplace and his parents would be much appreciated.  Thanks

Family History Beginners Board / Frances Middleton
« on: Wednesday 26 January 22 12:26 GMT (UK)  »
Hello  I have a gap of a few years for Frances Middleton b 30th January 1897 Wolverhampton  parents:  Charles Henry Middleton and Eliza Jane Kenning.  Siblings:  William Henry, Clara and George.  They lived in Tredegar Wales and I've found all living in the Workhouse in 1908 but the children were moved to the 'Cottage Homes' in 1911.  I have Bedwellty Union records for Frances and siblings but after 1912 there is no sign of Frances  I believe she may have been in Hackney, where she had her son Charles in 1925 but that's not definite.  She died in Southend on sea in 1987.  Can anyone help to fill in the missing years?  Thank you

Family History Beginners Board / Unknown Landowner
« on: Sunday 26 December 21 19:22 GMT (UK)  »
Hello  I'm trying to find who owned a piece of land in the pre 1900 or early 1900.
Town: Shipston-on-stour
Address:  London Road (west) known earlier as Oxford Road separated by a lane to Furze Hill Nurseries, shown on old maps of Shipston
The land was rented to Edwin Barnes in 1924 and his rent was paid to Oddfellows Society in Shipston.
I can't find any named members of this group.
Pre 1900 Possible owner John Henry Clark who owned land in Shipston and perhaps along the London Road
Any help would be much appreciated

Wiltshire / Parents of James Gray
« on: Tuesday 02 February 21 14:16 GMT (UK)  »
Hello All,
I'm trying to find the parents of James Gray 1816-1881.  He was born in Pertwood, Wiltshire  Mary Pike was his wife from Newton St Loe, Somerset.  They seem to have settled there and had 4 children.
I think I've found a birth record stating James's parents as Thomas and Mary (possibly Miles) but can find nothing more about them - assuming I have the right James and assuming his parents were living in Pertwood.
Very sketchy, I know   Hoping someone will be able to find out more.  Thanks

Family History Beginners Board / Anderton family
« on: Wednesday 20 January 21 15:28 GMT (UK)  »
A chance finding of a small coin while sweeping the garage floor has led me to find out more about it!  It's a token from the 17th Century and is inscribed with the town Stony Stratford and the name Robert Anderton.
So far, I've found info from a couple of sources - (Tokens from Buckinghamshire and Civil War petitions)  Robert Anderton was born roughly 1618-1623 (Civil War petition describes him as being over 80 in 1703)  He was a mercer and married to Mary unknown.
Possible ? :She died in 1675 and he remarried to Elizabeth Ebbs in 1675.  Francis Anderson, a grocer could be a relative.  Any help would be appreciated

I've now moved on to the son of John Postlethwaite.  Edwin  John Postlethwaite.  He was born in1851 in Clerkenwell, London.  Parents John and Mary Ann Roberts.  In 1861 he is living with his father and Elizabeth (Page)who was recorded as his wife but they never married.  Records show he was in the Royal Navy but unfortunately deserted in 1872.  I cannot find out what happened to him after this.  Thanks

Previously asked for whereabouts/death of John Postlethwaite
