World War One / Leonard Bradley
« on: Wednesday 08 November 23 09:51 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,
I am trying to help a friend with her Fam Tree and she has a Leonard Robert BRADLEY b 1876 in Islington.

He apparently died on a ship details below in 1917 and the details were found on a website called Remember the Fallen. This answer states that he was in the Army but was a member of the Nigerian Civil Service. It gives details of his marriage to Gertrude FROGGATT.
If he was in the Army as this seems to suggest, why can I not find any details on the CWGC etc

Thanks you Tom

Galway / Burke in Rosscommon area
« on: Saturday 26 August 23 15:36 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,
I have not been on here for a long time now and find that I have had lots of messages that I knew nothing about. Never had any emails to inform me.

However I have had a hint from an acquaintance that the BURKE family may come from Galway so my question and request is.

I have a Johanna BURKE born about 1799 in Ireland. She died in 1858 in Brown Candover, Hampshire.
She was married to James PATIENCE and they had 5 children all born in Brown Candover.

Is it possible to see if someone could find a birth record for Johanna in the Galway area, (Rosscommon keeps being hinted at, but not sure) and possibly even a marriage to James?
I am assuming that he may have likely been in the British Army stationed in the area.

Many thanks to all

Wondering if someone could find any Army / Medal details of a Henry Charles APPLETON who was born at Sherfield on Loddon, Basingstoke 7th April 1895. He died in 1971 in Basingstoke.
It is believed that he was in the 13th Batt of the Hampshire Regt during WW1.

Be very grateful for any info.
Many thanks

Her grandmother was Maria TARDELLI born 19th Nov 1924 in Ghivizzano, Lucca, Toscana, Italy. That is all the info we have.

If there is anyone who can help find more about her family it would be marvellous.

« on: Wednesday 12 May 21 16:43 BST (UK)  »
Sorry people its me again.  ???  ???

I am trying to find the birth record of my Gt Grandmother Mary Whitear. She was Christened on the 2nd Feb 1854 at Preston Candover her parents were William and Ann Whitear MMN Patience.

I have tried every spelling that I can think of. Either the birth was never registered or I am doing something wrong.

I don't need anything else about her, I have all the other info. It is just her birth registration that I am stuck on.

Can anyone help please.

Hampshire & IOW Lookup Requests / Marcy PATIENCE b1835 in Brown Candover
« on: Friday 07 May 21 16:11 BST (UK)  »
Hi everyone,

I need some help with Marcy Patience born 1835 in Brown Candover.

The only reference that I can find to her is in the 1841 census when she is living with her parents James and Johanna Patience and Marcy is aged 6 years in Brown Candovcer.

I cannot find a birth record, Baptism, Marriage or death for her.

It is possible that her name was Mary or similar. I have searched through the whole of Brown Candover in the 1851 census and there is no trace of her.

Any help gratefully received.

Tom

I have now found  a birth record of a Maria Patience, parents Jacobi Patience and Joannae Burke.
In Titchbourne. The names of the parents are about right they were James Patience and Johanna Burke

Armed Forces / 39th Foot Regt
« on: Monday 19 April 21 14:07 BST (UK)  »
Would anyone know if the 39th Foot Regt Dorsetshire's would have been in Ireland between 1815 and about 1828.

I have a rellie who was married to a lady from Ireland, but I have no idea where in the country she comes from. I cannot find a marriage for them in England, so am assuming now that they married in Ireland.

I have just found attestation papers for a boy of the same name and age joining in 1815 aged 15 years in Winchester.

The eldest child that I can find for them was born in 1828 in Hampshire.

So if I can fit this Regiment into Ireland at about that time and where they were, it might give me a clue as to where my 3 X Great grandmother was born.

World War Two / Member of the 10th Hussars in India.
« on: Tuesday 13 April 21 12:19 BST (UK)  »
Trying to help some friends with family history.

They have a J or Joe GAINES who was in the 10th Hussars during the 1930s in Calcutta area of India where he married Muriel WOODS and had two daughters there. Sadly his wife who was born in Calcutta in 1908 died there in Dec 1939.

It is believed that on leaving the Hussars he became a member of the Calcutta Police.

They have no idea where or when he was born or died. Is it possible that the 10th Hussar records would have any details. Would it be worth them spending £30 to see if his Army record could be found with such scant detail.

Any help very much appreciated.
Tom
