"There is a few that know that I am having an operation today, Tuesday 11.03.2008.

To all of these chatters, (they all know who they are), a very BIG thank you.  If it wasn’t for you all I wouldn't have got there and the with the blessings and thoughts from others also.

Well, all I can say is Thank You.

Lizoz has my permission to ring my Home Number and talk to family members to enable her to let some of you to know how the operation went.

I wont go into details of the operation with this message, but some already know what it entails.

I will be back as soon it allows me too, and not before.

Going to miss ya all

According to the book "Winds Of Change" ( Edited by Bess HANSFORD, PUB 1988),  about the people & places around the town of Mumbil in NSW, Australia:

1) He was born 1836 at "Royal Oak" Carlow

2) Arrived in Australia in 1838, accompanied by his mother Margaret Huh presumably McDOWELL at the time

3) Robert McDOWELL married 1859 Frances Elizabeth BAILEY

From NSW BMD site:

Marriage certificate detail for Robert McDOWELL:
Reg No: 1859/003123
Date/Place: 18 October 1859/Burrandong
Names: Robert McDOWELL & Frances Elizabeth BAILEY
Conugal Status: Batchelor/Spinster

 Death Certificate of Robert McDOWELL:
Reg No: 1915/017156
Name: Robert McDOWELL
Age: 80 yrs
Name of Father: unknown
Fathers Occupation: Governor of Gaol
Mothers name: Margaret (surname unknown)
Where born and how long in Australian colonies/states: Ireland/76 yrs in NSW

G'day to all our moderators here in RootsChat.

I just want to say that I think you all do a wonderful job
Here and in the chat room you keep the referee's whistle handy
With a toss of the hand your whistle, between the lips filled with air must lob
To keep your control on the dandy.

As a volunteer, I know the crud that you must sometimes collect, all the while giving of your best for the good of the most.

From this Aussie, thank you for keeping this wonderful site as it is.  A friendly place where for me, I come to find my living extended family who aid and abet me locating my extinct extended family.

So a huge THREE CHEERS from this Aussie :):)   (cos you dont get the many accolades that you deserve
Yer all  8) 8) yep your'e all cool!!
I'm sure many would agree.

Cheers
Robert & Karon

You are all champions  :D who restore these pics.  Here is a challenge, I think.

Is this old pic of two of my uncles too far gone.  In my very uneducated opinion, they are beyond it, especially the dogs in the photo.  Pic was scanned at 1200 DPI to A5 size and reduced to where it is now.  Just tell me true if its stuffed :) , or if I need to scan in some other way.

Kind regards,
Robert & Karon

Gloucestershire Lookup Requests / Re: Frampton Cotterill & District - SHEPHERD
« on: Thursday 17 August 06 12:40 BST (UK)  »
Jen,
Have you come across any Shepherd families from Frampton Cotterell.

There could be:
William Shepherd & Mary (Alsop) b.1760's
son William Shepherd & Sarah (Andrews) b. 1780's
son Christopher Shepherd & Martha b. 1808 & 1815
son Henry Shepherd & Emma (Colborn/e) b. 1836 & 1843
son Francis Henry Shepherd b. 1865 and migrated to Australia.

Following dates are Census dates:
William and Mary lived around Iron Acton,

William and Sarah lived 1841 - 1861 at Acton Mill, Iron Acton, 1851

Christopher and Martha lived in 1861 at "Snailhams Farm", Winterbourne, 1871 at "Acton Mill" Iron Acton

Henry and Emma in in 1871 lived at "Snailhams Farm" Winterbourne, 1881 - 1901 at "Downend Farm", Mangotsfield (Downend).

Francis Henry Shepherd was born in Frampton Cotterell, 12/07/1865

All were born in the towns/villages of Downend, Frampton Cotterell, Iron Acton, Westerleigh and Winterbourne.

I am sure that Henry and Emma lived at "Downend Farm" Downend from about 1900 or earlier to at least 1928 (Date and address of letter to F H Shepherd in Australia).

Looking foward to hearing from somone who knows a bit of the area.

Take care
Robert & Karon
