We’ve been using an old version of Family Tree Maker (v 11) for quite a few years now. The only problem we have is with the printing options. It doesn’t seem to have the flexibility that others promise. For example, when I do an All-In-One tree I would prefer the generations to be in line with each other. At the moment I get many of them correct but the odd 2 or 3 seem to be stuck further down the page so it makes it difficult to see the generation by generation view easily. (Hope that makes sense!). I’ve tried tinkering about with the options but can’t seem to change it.  I’ve resorted to taking a person, say the furthest one in a particular family, and doing a Descendant Tree. This then puts everything neatly in order.
Would it make sense to upgrade to the latest version or should we think about another program?

Warwickshire / Southwell/Carrington

I've come to a brick wall. My maternal Great Grandfather was Edwin Robert Southwell b 1871 in Birmingham. According to info I've received from someone down the tree, he married an Elizabeth Rebecca Carrington. They adopted my Grandfather b 1891 and had 3 more children between 1895 and 1903.
Try as I may I just can't find the marriage details. I want to do this to prove or not Elizabeth's ancestors as I think that the person who has supplied their details seems to have made a mistake with her parents etc. They have her father as a Corrington with an "O".

Staffordshire / Downing, Hill Top Farm Handsworth

I'm looking for some more info on this family who farmed Hill Top Farm in Handsworth. I have censuses of 1871 and 1881 showing George Downing farming here and then he dies in 1886. His son goes on to farm in Austry, nr Tamworth. I'm particularly interested in Georgina (George Snr's daughter who was born in 1851. I have a Georgina Downing's (never married?) death in 1915 in Aston, Birmingham. Not sure yet if she's the one.

Norfolk / Suckling
« on: Monday 09 March 09 08:58 GMT (UK)  »
An Aunt, Edith Fowler, married Sid Suckling sometime in the 1920's or 30's in Birmingham. I've never found out much about the Suckling line. Talking to my cousin, the last Suckling I'm in contact with, there was a Peter Sucking from Norfolk who made contact with my uncle Sid many years ago. He was doing research into the name and found a link with my uncle's family.
It's a long shot, but I wondered if Peter Suckling, or one of his descendants, is out there somewhere?
Thanks

Warwickshire / Sanders and Sutherland
« on: Sunday 04 January 09 11:43 GMT (UK)  »
I was looking on the 1911 census for my maternal grandmother who was still living in London on the 1901 one. I knew that she'd moved to Aston, Birmingham, before going to Bromford. I found the family in Sandy Lane, Aston.

William Sanders Head Age 50
Sarah Wife Age 55
Florrie Daughter Age 18
William Son Age 16
Henry Son Age 16
Albert Son Age 10
Lizzie Sutherland Daughter Age 28
Lizzie Sutherland Grandchild Age 8
Sarah Sutherland Grandchild Age 7

William and Sarah were my Nan's parents (Sarah had re-married so William was her step dad), Florrie was my Nan. William, Henry and Albert were the sons from William Snr and Sarah.

I'm still investigating Lizzie Sutherland shown as daughter and Lizzie and Sarah grandchildren. (I have a good idea who this Lizzie Snr is.)

I wondered if anyone has links to either the Sanders boys or the Sutherlands?

Warwickshire / Relative Drowned in Warwick
« on: Monday 17 March 08 07:51 GMT (UK)  »
I've just found a report in a newspaper, Birmingham Daily Post, from 1864 that my GG Grandmother was found drowned in a pool in Warwick. Can anyone suggest the next steps I could take to research more? I suppose Coroner's Court info (if there were such things then) or police files?

Really appreciate this, thanks.
