Florence Fraser Kirkman was born to John (Publican) and Sophia Kirkman in Mile End on 29 January 1881.  She married John Rothwell Haslam in Northampton 10 June 1918 (where her father was named as George - a mechanical Engineer-deceased).  However, I can find no trace of Florence or her parents in any UK Census, shipping or other online records.  Please. any ideas on where they may have been or where else I can look for them would be greatly appreciated?

London and Middlesex / Rope Walk, Sunbury, U.D.
« on: Saturday 05 December 15 06:10 GMT (UK)  »
My grandmother's 1916 death certificate states that she died, aged 40, at 17 Rope Walk, Sunbury U.D., away from her own home and family in Bow.  I am trying to find out who lived at No 17, or what it may have been.  From my view 'down under', Rope Walk appears on todays Google to be a very narrow walled pathway without any houses.  The closest I have come to identifying any buildings is the 1911 UK Census which lists a family living at 119 Rope Walk.  Does anyone have any knowledge of Rope Walk or its inhabitants around 1916?

World War Two / World War Two - 162nd Regiment of RAC
« on: Tuesday 16 July 13 02:21 BST (UK)  »
My Uncle was in the 162nd Regiment RAC, which was formed from The Buffs (West Kent) in 1942 - I have a photo of him in Belgium in late 1944 but nothing else - does anyone have any other information about the 162nd during WWII?

Oxfordshire Completed Look Up Requests / Completed - Banbury Court Records 1863
« on: Friday 23 September 11 01:13 BST (UK)  »
Greetings All,
Can anyone help with a positive identification of Robert Baxter, convicted at Banbury Court on 17th October 1863, for 'Larceny of Coal Gas' and sentenced to 12 months imprisonment.  He was tried with John Henry Baxter who was acquitted.  My problem is that Robert James Baxter was the father of John Henry Baxter, and William Robert Baxter (AKA Robert Baxter) was the brother of John Henry, who lived at 4 Market Place Banbury.  At the time, Robert James lived in Oxford and William Robert lived in Birmingham.  Sooo, who was convicted?  And where did he served his sentence?  And how did he manage to 'fiddle the meter' 20 years before meters were invented?

Somerset / Is John BEARD the father of Joseph?
« on: Saturday 16 April 11 13:52 BST (UK)  »
John Beard married Marion Goldsworthy in Taunton St James, 15th May, 1828.  According to the 1841 Census, they had one child in 1830 and another in 1836 - the six year gap suggesting the possibility of at least one other child being born in between the named pair.

Twenty-nine years later,  Joseph Beard, born in Bath about 1833 (according to his marriage certificate), married Elizabeth Holbrook at the York Street Baptist Chapel, Bath, on the 15th March 1857.  On the same marriage certificate, Joseph's father was named as John Beard (deceased), formerly a journeyman carpenter.

Try as I may, I have been unable to find birth or baptism or other evidence to support the idea that this John, with Marion, were the parents of Joseph.  Nor have I found any other probable parents for Joseph in the 1841 or 1851 census for Bath.

Anyone know anything about these people or have any ideas how I might find whether there is a link?

London & Middlesex Lookup Requests / Seeking parents of John Barnes b:1812
« on: Thursday 24 February 11 03:13 GMT (UK)  »
I am looking for the parents of John Barnes, born 1812/3 in Isleworth, Middlesex.  A blacksmith by trade, he married Louisa Barnes, of Heston, in 1835, fathered 8 children and died about 1864.  Anyone out there have evidence of who his parents were, and if he was related to Louisa before their marriage?  There were several Barnes families in Isleworth in the mid-1800s and at least two other 'John & Louisa' pairs apart from my ggGrandparents.
Thanks :)
