My third great uncles son Henri John Hart was appointed a Commissioner of the Supreme
Court of Victoria by the Chief Justice Sir William A Beckett in December of 1854. This
commission gave him jurisdiction in the United States, where he was intending to visit.
Although he was born in New York and for some months was in the office of the New York
State Attorney General Hugh Maxwell he never became a lawyer. Perhaps some
Rootschatter better informed than myself on these matters can be of assistance .
Thanks
