Radnorshire / Joseph Thomas
« on: Friday 27 February 15 16:24 GMT (UK)  »
I am trying to trace the above who was born in or around 1840 in Radnorshire, possibly Glasbury? of thereabouts.  His father was William Thomas, a labourer.  Joseph was living in Shobdon at the time of his marriage and then settled for a while in Eyton and district.  His year of birth differs from census to census! When he was buried his age was given as 80 in 1920. He was buried in Oldham Lancashire.

United States of America / ALMA I PLANT
« on: Saturday 16 June 12 10:59 BST (UK)  »
I have just come across the above girl on the 1920 Census for Boston Mass.  She is the daughter of Eugene (b. Ireland) and Marie Plant (b. Rochdale, England.  Can anyone throw any light on Alma?
b. 1913 in Mass.

Also I noticed there is "Catherine Coyle" listed as "adopted daughter" of the Eugene and Marie.  she was born in Scotland but her parents were Irish.

I recollect my mother mentioning that Marie (or Aunty Mary as she was known to us in UK) did have a child but thought nothing of it until lo and behold, here she is, so I am longing to trace further about her.   Any help would be appreciated.

Many thanks.  Thombenn

Lancashire / British Catholic Records
« on: Monday 16 April 12 14:46 BST (UK)  »
I want to research into Roman Catholic baptisms/marriages/deaths in England but it is not easy to find them anywhere.  in particular I want to see the Manchester areas or Preston?  Any ideas?  I notice there doesn't appear to be RC's on the Mormon records.    Would I have to contact the actual diocese of the area of interest?   I would appreciate any pointers and help I can get.

Many thanks.  Thombenn

Europe / Tracing child born in Spain 1824
« on: Wednesday 24 August 11 19:39 BST (UK)  »
If a child was born in  Spain but a British Subject around 1824 how can I find out more?  No idea of her parents details, except that ths was called Julia Hurley.   Could her father have been a soldier in Spain either (English or Irish), I know Waterloo ended around 1815 so that could be a little early.

Also could the father have worked on ships travelling from say, Cornwall or Ireland to Spain at that time?  Would the fact that she is said to be "British Subject" mean that it was her father who was British (the mother could have been Spainish?)  tearing my hair out here.

Or could it be that there would be no record at all of her birth/baptism in Spain?

Any ideas?     Thanks Thombenn

United States of America / JOSEPH EUGENE PLANT
« on: Thursday 04 August 11 13:11 BST (UK)  »
Are there any relatives etc of Joseph Plant b. 1886 Dublin, d. 1980 in Florida, last known address Hibiscus Ave South Pasadena.  He left a wife Elizabeth and several nieces and nephews.  He had been a Chief Steward for the United Fruit Co and moved to Florida from the Bronx in 1970, He was a member of St John's Catholic Church.  I found this from his orbituary. He was first married to my great aunt, Mary who died in 1947 in New York City.  I would love to hear from anyone who remembers him and has anymore information other than that I have gleaned from Ancestry.com records etc.  A photo maybe?
Thanks a lot everyone
