Cheshire Lookup Requests / Cheshire look ups - Macclesfield
« on: Wednesday 09 January 19 03:01 GMT (UK)  »
Just wondering if some kind person could look up the Latchford family in the parish registers for me. I have some confusion with a Giles Latchford b 1782 as far as I am aware in Macclesfield, all I can find online is a Giles Latchford born in Astley, with father Cornelius Latchford. I want to see it there was also a Giles baptised in Macclesfield at that time. My Giles Latchford and family after that are all baptised and buried in Macclesfield, they were silk weavers of Parsonage Street.

Lancashire / Latchford Family from Macclesfield and Astley

I wonder if anyone can help to link our Macclesfield Latchford family to the Astley/Leigh lot?

We have traced back to a Giles Latchford born in Macclesfield 1785 I know there is also a Giles Latchford born in Leigh in 1782/1785 with father Cornelius Latchford, then they trace back in Leigh for a few more generations.

Our Giles Latchford b 1782/1785 was baptised in Macclesfield, and there are Latchford's in the parish registers dating back further than 1782 in Macclesfield. Our Giles Latchford married Elizabeth Oakes in 1801 in Macclesfield.

I have all my Latchford family on the census tracing back to 1841 living in Parsonage Street, Macclesfield, so I know that he is not the Giles Latchford from Astley/Leigh.

see my website for our Macclesfield Latchford family tree
http://www.thewallworks.co.uk/

look under Latchford

The problem in that Giles, Cornelius, William, Harriet are all names that also run through the Leigh/Astley branch of Latchford's, I just wondered if anyone has managed to find a connection to our Latchford's in Macclesfield.

I know that the name Latchford comes from a small hamlet in Warrington, Latchford. Warrington being roughly between Macclesfield and Leigh/Astley.

Looking forward to any replies with any help.

kind regards

Lizzie (Wallie)

Asda have put forward plans to build a new store in Swinton, Manchester.  The plans include removing 313 people who are laid to rest in Swinton Unitarian Church Yard. The last burial was November 1962 just under 50 years ago! Here is a list of surnames of the people buried in the church yard. We are looking for relatives of people buried there. We are opposed to the plan to remove the Swinton people from their final resting place. This includes a WW1 soldier Wilbraham Blears who was buried there will full milatary honours along with 3 men who were killed in the Clifton Pit Disaster of 1885. I have a full list of names, so if you think any of your ancestors are buried there please contact me. Many of these people were local bussiness people who had shops in Swinton for many years.

Surnames of people and how many laid to rest in Swinton Unitarian Church Yard.

Dublin / Patrick & Ellen FALLON from Dublin
« on: Monday 09 October 06 20:41 BST (UK)  »
HI,

I am seeking information on my ggg grandparents they were:-

Patrick Fallon and wife Ellen Fallon

I have Ellen on the 1871 census living with her daughter Ellen Rourke and husband Fenton Rourke, It looks like Ellen Fallon was born around 1813 Dublin and died here in the UK in 1878.

I have no record of Patrick Fallon other than on Ellen's death certificate it states that she was the widow of Patrick Fallon a cattle dealer.

Their daughter Ellen Fallon was born in Dublin about 1845 she married Fenton Rourke.

I would be grateful for any information on any of these Fallon's.

Could some one see if they could find a marriage of Patrick Fallon and Ellen ????? or the christening of their daughter Ellen Fallon about 1845, or even the death of a Patrick Fallon a cattle dealer. Or possibly a marriage between a Ellen Fallon and Fenton Rourke, around 1865/68

I believe that they were O'Fallon and dropped the O to find work in the UK easier.

thank you!! :D :D

regards Wallie

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Fenton ROURKE born in Yorkshire - Help needed
« on: Monday 09 October 06 20:24 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

Could some very nice kind person please help me, I am trying to find any evidence of my gg Grandfather Fenton Rourk/Rourke/Rork/O'Rourke I think the correct spelling is Rourke, family legend has it that they dropped the O to find work easier in the UK.

Well here goes:-

I have Fenton Rourke on the 1871 census living in Kearsley Farnworth Bolton with his wife, mother-in-law and family. His occupation is a coal miner, this is my Fenton for sure, but my problem is that his place of birth is given just as YORKSHIRE I haven't been able to find anything else on him before the 1871 census, although I know his full history after 1871. He was married to Ellen Fallon daughter of Ellen and Patrick Fallon from Dublin.

Does any one have any suggestions on what part of Yorkshire??

I was wondering if any one could possibly find his birth in the Parish Registers?? (A long shot I know)

As far as I know Fenton Rourke was born Yorkshire about 1838/1840

I think that Fenton is a yorkshire christian name, but I believe the family of Rourke's were from Ireland. Just wondered if any one had ever come accoss Fenton Rourke

I would be very grateful for any help on this matter.

regards Wallie

US Lookup Requests / FELIX QUINN AND CATHERINE QUINN
« on: Sunday 19 February 06 23:19 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

Could some very kind person please try to find the death of Felix Quinn for me.

Felix Quinn was born in Ireland about 1821 he came over to the uk and lived in Durham, with his wife Ellen and daughter Catherine. They later moved to Salford.

All I know is that his granddaughter Catherine Quinn who was born in Pendleton Salford about 1879 left England to take her grandfather Felix to America. I think they went some time after 1881.

Felix was in poor health at the time and was told by his doctor to emigrate or he would soon die, amazingly he lived to be 102 so his death would have been around 1923 I don't know where in the USA they went to. Felix could have also been known as Michael. ??? ???

Surely there must be some records of people who lived passed 100 does any one know of any that I could check for him?

I know for sure that Catherine was still in the USA around 1942-45

Any help and information on these two Quinn's would be greatly appreciated.

regards Wallie :) :)
