Hello All

I have recently come across the grave of my husbands Grandfather. It reads "Sapper Royal Engineers". However I am now a little confused as his service papers state that he was a Private in the 4th Pioneers Battalion until his discharge in 1918. Does anyone know if this is one of the same?
Admittedly, I have only researched via the internet, but have found nothing to explain my confusion. According to family history he was a light horseman. I must apologise for my ignorance, but can any one shed some light this  ???

Australia Lookups completed / Morton Bay 1825
« on: Wednesday 11 October 06 13:22 BST (UK)  »
Hello All

Can anyone tell me where I would be able to locate criminal records of prisoners that were sent to Morton Bay between 1825 and 1827. I understand that Henry Parkes requested that convict records be destroyed in the late 1870's  :'(, but surely there has to be some criminal records tucked away in a safe place. I am looking for Marcellas Day son of William and Husband of Margaret Mansfield. He was born about 1804 at Parramatta and was transported to Morton Bay for 7 years, but for what  ???
Any help appreciated.

US Lookup Requests / Cunnungham death
« on: Saturday 18 March 06 12:52 GMT (UK)  »
Looking for the death of William Cunningham. Born abt 1828 Ayr Scotland. William was married to Margaret Busby in 1852 Barony and was the youngest of seven children. I am led to believe he left Scotland after 1891 and travelled to the US. The LDS have recorded his death in 1896, but I am unable to find any documentation to support this. I have checked Scottish records to no avail. His brother Robert was living in Salt Lake so he may have been staying with Roberts family  ???. I am not familiar with US records or what they contain, but I am trying to confirm Williams parentage. Any help would be greatly appeciated. :)

Lanarkshire / Where to from here!!

What to do and where to look ?

My Gr Gr Grandmother Margaret McCulloch nee O'Hare died in 1873 aged thirty, widow of John McCulloch. According to the marriage certificate of her son, William in 1888 his fathers name was John McCulloch. William's year of birth works out to be about 1868, Glasgow. I have verified this via 2 census returns and 2 marriage certificates.
This is as good as it gets!
I am unable to find John, Margaret and William on a census return for 1871, nor can I find a birth record for them and you guessed it, I can't find a marriage certificate for John and Margaret either. to make matters worse the informant on her death certificate is John McCulloch Brother In Law, not husband.

Does anyone have any suggestions.

Sharon.

Durham Completed Look up Requests / 1871 census lookup (Durham)please
« on: Sunday 12 June 05 12:18 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for the family of James Park b about 1836 Ireland.
James Park m Margaret Buchanan at Sunderland 1875. As yet I am unable to establish a definite birth place but she was born about 1845. Their children were:
Joseph b about 1866 Eng
Mary b 1869 Eng
Margaret b about 1871 Eng
There were at least another four children born after 1871
William b 1875 Eng
Patrick b 1877 Gateshead
Jane b 1880 Scotland
James b 1882 Scotland
I guess I'm just presuming that the top 3 children were born in Durham as their parents were married in Sunderland and a sibling was born in Gateshead.
Any help greatly appreciated.

Any suggestions?
I have a marriage certificate dated 1888 for my gr gr grandfather William McCulloch. On it, his father is recorded as being a private in the 42nd, deceased. After researching this information I am led to believe that the 42nd is the Black Watch. Am I on the right track? After looking at many sites relating to the Black Watch, I am unable to find any any information regarding my ancestor John McCulloch. Eventhough my gr gr grandfather William McCulloch was born in Glasgow in about 1868, I am unable to find him or his father John and mother Margaret on any 1871 census. Could military action have taken them all abroad.
Any thoughts or suggestions regarding these matters would be greatly appreciated.

I have been trying very hard to locate my gr grandfather John Kerr b about 1859. I have located him in the 1891 census, Lanarkshire which gives his birth place as Perthshire. He was married to Agnes Cunningham 1883, Bothwell and His parents were William and Mary Kerr nee Busby m  July 1845 Dunipace, Stirling. I have no other details regarding siblings etc. Due to my location I am unable to access the 1861 census for Perthshire or Stirling.
