Denbighshire / Copenhagen Denbigh
« on: Today at 03:46 »
Does anyone know why the area of Copenhagen in Denbigh is named that.

My first cousin, we are both female and
We share Grandparents.  Our Mothers were sisters.
She did a Ancestry DNA test hoping to trace relatives on her father's side , as her Grandfather and his Mother were both illegitimate.
The only matches she had were for her Grandmothers  family, this is the lady who married the illegitimate man. No relation to me. Nothing showed for her Mothers line.
I'm wondering if I have a test would it show any more on my Mothers side, given the fact nothing showed up for my cousin.
Sorry if this is a bit confusing.  ???

Technical Help / Using phone as satnav.
« on: Saturday 05 June 21 17:45 BST (UK)  »
I have an android phone, not the most expensive model.
I don't use mobile data often ,it's mostly for calls and wifi as I don't have a contract.

Ive started group walking on footpaths and tracks in the hills. The last place had no phone signal.
Is there a simple map programme I can use to find my location off line.
It would be useful to know where I actually am and how far to my planned destination.

Also I would really need to know how to use it.

« on: Tuesday 18 May 21 15:10 BST (UK)  »

Llangollen Advertiser 8th December 1916

Staffordshire Soldier Decorated at Wrexham. On Tuesday.afternoon Major Maunsell of Beechley, Wrexham, visited Roseneath Hospital and decorated L.-Corpl. Hemsley. of the North Staffordshire Regiment, with the Military Medal, which has been awarded to him for conspicuous bravery on the battlefield. L.-Corpl. Hemsley, who comes from Burton- on-Trent, has been wounded three times, and his leg has been amputated.

7th December 1917
At the matinee Major Hugh Peel, of Brynypys, presided, and those present included  Major Mansell, , and a crowd of wounded soldiers.

Does anyone have an idea who Major Maunsell / Mansell was. I can find a Major Mansell in South Wales  earlier but he is a magistrate.

The Common Room / Monumental inscriptions
« on: Saturday 17 April 21 19:19 BST (UK)  »
When a headstone had an inscription later added, would it be taken to the masons work place or would it have been done on the spot.
Would it have to be laid flat to be worked on. This is 1876.
The reason behind this is that the stone isn't in the same area as similar dated burials.  It's on its own at the back of the Church and lying flat.

The Common Room / Numbers in burial entry.
