Family History Beginners Board / HELP- 1943 Inquest
« on: Monday 11 June 12 21:54 BST (UK)  »
Hello friendly roots chatters ,
I am after some advice... I recently discovered that one of my ancestors  (Cornelius Maskall age 30) was killed on the railway sidings LMS, Brent Empty Wagon siding of Edgware Road, Hendon UD, he was run over by a railway wagon whilst Shunting on the 1st jan 1943,  the death certifiate says ...

Coroner for east middlesex Inquest held 5th January 1943

It may sound a bit morbid but I would like to know the outcome of the inquest ...  Can inquest information even be viewed? and if so where where would i find it?

Any help is greatly apprciated
Thanks in advance Alexpk

London and Middlesex / HELP- lost grave MASKALL
« on: Saturday 07 April 12 19:51 BST (UK)  »
Hello friendly roots chatters,
Can any one help me with this mystery.. any ideas of suggestons are very welcome because ive hit a wall.

I have a memorial card for our relative CORNELIUS MASKALL who passed away Jan 1st  1943 aged 30 years , at the bottom of the card it simply says ..

Laid to rest at St. Pancras Cemetery , East finchley. In family grave...

...... However, he appears not to be there? I have asked at the cemetery but they say he is not buried there..yet living family (although they would have been very young at the time ) say they recall a burial there ?  I have also checked deceased on line but still nothing??? There is a family grave at Finchley but the only two names listed as being buried there are his parents Charles and Rosetta... next to their grave is an unmarked grave, from the section map I make the un marked grave  number to be  section 10k 31 ,i feel this could be his grave but... apparently according to the person I spoke to at Finchley you cannot search graves by number ,only by name.. is this true? or have I just stumbled upon someone who was a little uninterested.

Thank you , any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

 ??? Alex

Family History Beginners Board / Why a Marriage Bond? - HELP
« on: Monday 06 June 11 22:25 BST (UK)  »
Hi helpful rootschatters,
I have recently obtained a Marriage bond and marriage allegation for one of my ancestors from 1802, having searched the internet for information on Marriage Bonds I think I understand the general purpose of the Marriage Bond - that the groom and the bondsman would forefit the bond if the groom did not marry his intended bride? ...  ???

On the document I have it starts by saying... Know all men by there prefents, that Edward Maskall of the Parish of Hadleigh bachelor and James Maskall of the same Parish are holden and firmly bound  to the Reverend ..... then goes on to mention the sum of £200... does this mean that the groom had to pay this to marry or is this what he would have to pay should he not marry his intended bride?

...also could anyone simply explain but what was the allegation for?  sorry to seem a dope I'm new to all this.

Thank you  in advance.

Hi,
Does any one know if the memorial inscriptions on the graves in St. Marys church yard, Hadleigh, Suffolk have ever been recorded?

I have been scanning the internet and although many other local grave yards in Hadleigh and the wider area have been documented St. Marys church yard appears not to be.

Thanks in advance for any help.

World War One / Help- WWI died in Aldershot? or Flanders?
« on: Sunday 17 April 11 00:21 BST (UK)  »
Hey
Does anyone have any idea why a theatre of war would go down as Aldershot if the person died in Flanders?

Im researching Private Joseph Maskall (no 63561) who died in action 28th May 1918. (Worc Reg). The records on ancestory say he was killed in action theatre of was Aldershot, Does that mean thats where he died? I was always led to believe... from handed down info... that he died in Flanders.

Thanks in advance  :)
