This is my GGG grandma WILLIAMS taken sometime before 1935 probably in Palmerston North NZ when she died at the ripe old age of 95!

This is the only photo we have of her, although I have a great one of her sister at a younger age.  My question is is it possible to define her facial features any more?

Staffordshire / Bowell, Staffordshire??
« on: Thursday 17 July 14 23:34 BST (UK)  »
Hi there,

I am looking at tracing my HADLEY family back further.  What I know so far is the marriage of Ann HADLEY to Daniel DERRY 13th February 1804 St Martin Birmingham. I found this on IGI originally but now can’t seem to find it on familysearch!

I found Ann DERRY living in Sutton Coldfield in the 1851 census at 27 Hill Hook receiving Parish Support and it gives her age as 74 and birthplace as what looks like Bowell, Staffordshire but I couldn’t find Bowell on the map! Ancestry transcribes as Banell but again nothing on a current map.  Closest would possibly be Bagnall.  So from this information I know she was born around 1777 but have been unable to conclude with certainty any possible parents for her.  Can anyone help?

Occupation Interests / Coffee Ahornsiruper 1851 census
« on: Monday 07 January 13 10:49 GMT (UK)  »
I have a most interesting occupation listed on the 1851 census of a female ancestor.  She is described as a coffee ahornsiruper of which I can find nothing on google!  They are otherwise an unremarkable family, her husband is listed as a labourer and milkman and their children as scholars living in Finsbury, Islington.  Can anyone offer insight?

Census and Resource Discussion / What is this occupation?

Hullo,

Having trouble dechipering this occupation for Susan King in 1841 census.  Looks like J J or S S.  Can't find any abbreviated occupations that fit from this time on google, so can anyone help?

This was pulled out of my grandfathers collection after he died.  It is an old photocopy of an original photo.  Nothing written on the back and we have no idea who the couple are, when the photo was taken or where.  I am wondering if it is possible to date or even obtain other details from clues in the photo, will it be possible to give the location of where the photo was taken?  I have posted the photo also on a paid photo dating site but havn't heard back.  Does anyone have any sites they could recommend?

Cheers

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Old newspaper clipping - COMPLETE
« on: Wednesday 18 May 11 19:41 BST (UK)  »
Hello!

This is an old clipping handed through the families of an ancestor who died in 1918 in the war.  I was curious as to what it is exactly referring to within the brackets.  Would that be the wife in most cases, the m. standing for married and the date they were married?  What would the "f" stand for then?

Any ideas?

Occupation Interests / Elizabeth Kearins - Mother superior
« on: Saturday 14 May 11 23:15 BST (UK)  »
Hello all!

Not sure of a birth date for the above.  Parents are William Kearins b. Castlemaine, Kitallagh, Ireland and Susie Crummins b. about 1823.  Apparently Susie was also a mother superior.

Looking for any information on this family esp Elizabeth - birth date; when she became a mother superior etc.

Best wishes,

Erica Gunn
