Immigrants & Emigrants - General / Deaths at Sea 1830's and 1840's
« on: Monday 22 April 24 12:28 BST (UK)  »
Can anyone please advise if there are records for deaths at sea for people migrating to Australia in the 1830's and 1840's via assisted passenger or bounty schemes. Not Covicts.
Would there have been a "surgeon/doctor"on board who kept a journal.
Thankyou
Wendy

Any help finding the burial place of Vital Joseph Verbraeken who died 13 December 1883  at Edge Lane Liverpool.
I have a lot of information regarding him but have been unable to find anything regarding his burial. He was  originally from Belgium and a staunch Catholic.
Thanks

Family History Beginners Board / Help with understanding Dorset OPC Records
« on: Sunday 25 August 19 06:07 BST (UK)  »
I'm having trouble understanding the records could someone please explain what M142 at the end of the burial record for Sarah Cox buried in 1935 means. (http://www.opcdorset.org/ShillingstoneFiles/ShillingstoneBursRH1901-1977.htm)
Also, how do I find the cemetery? I'm in Australia and not familiar with Shillingstone.
I have found OPC records for burials in Shillingstone 1851-1900, and 1901-1977. I think there is an earlier record as well but have been unable to find it. I have only been able to find registers with Prefix E and F.
Thank you

 Hi All,
Seeking information on how to find the burial place of my 3rd great Aunt Isabella McArdle(nee Harrison)1845-28 Jan1885. She lived at  148 Brompton Rd Kensington London. She was assaulted on 26 Jan 1885 and died two days later. There was extensive coverage of the event in the newspapers and a trial at The Old Bailey. However, I have been unable to find out any information regarding her burial. Her husband and children were Catholic.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I have a dilemma with conflicting information regarding my 2xGrandmother Catherine McArdle and her parents.
According to Liverpool Catholic Baptisms she was born on 30th June 1843 to Peter McArdle and Catherine nee McKittrick. She is  listed as daughter of Peter and Catherine McArdle in the 1851 and 1861 Census. In 1865 she married Joseph Bullen. Marriage certificate states she was 21 and gives Peter McArdle as father.
I recently ordered some certificates.
The date of birth on the certificate is the same as in Liverpool Catholic Baptisms but the certificate states her father was John McArdle not Peter. Also that she was born in Dukes Place. I found Peter McArdle and Catherine and older children living in Dukes Place in the 1841 Census.
Peter McArdle dies in 1863. According to Liverpool Catholic Burials he is buried at Ford in F82. The plot is owned by his daughter Sarah Daly. She is buried here as is Peters wife Catherine.
However Catherines death certificate states she is widow of John McArdle not Peter. The date and place of death are the same in Liverpool Catholic Burials and on the death certificate. We also have a photo of the Gravestone at F82.The date on the inscription matches death certificate and burial record.
Where have I gone wrong in my research? How can this dilemma be solved? Sorry I'm not very computer literate and have been unable to attach certificates it says they are too large.

Canada / How do I obtain Canadian Marriage Certificates.
« on: Sunday 22 May 16 06:14 BST (UK)  »
Can anyone advise how I can obtain marriage cerificates for Canadian ancestors.
I'm trying to obtain marriage certificates for
Edward McArdle &Alice Amy Hayden married  3 June 1908 St Stephens Anglican Lachine Quebec(source Drouin  Collection)
and
William Harrison McArdle &Elizabeth Frances Figsby married  6 June 1899 St Stephens Anglican Lachine Quebec(source Drouin Collection).
I have reasons to believe  Edward and William McArdle  were brothers and am trying to build evidence to support this.I was hoping marriage certificates would include details of parentage.
I have looked at www.etatcivil@gouv.qc.ca,however it seems to be able to order a certificate you have to a go through very rigorous proof of identity process of which I cant meet the requirements. ?Am I looking in the right place?Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
