Lanarkshire / James Mack Smith
« on: Friday 31 January 20 01:47 GMT (UK)  »
I am trying to trace what became of two of my Gt Grandmothers brothers.  James Mack or Meck Smith born 29/2/1888 and John born 1885.  They were born in Glasgow but moved to the Isle of Man c1896.  I know my Gt Grandmother moved back and lived in Govan sometime between 1904 and 1914, before going back to IOM.
Her brothers may have also returned to Scotland?
They may have joined the Navy but I know nothing of them after the 1901 Census in Ramsey IOM where they lived with their Mother Lilias Smith b1858 in Muckairn.
Their Father was Thomas Smith, born 1860 Old Monklands, Engine Fitter.  I believe they lived in Toll Cross just before going to IOM in 1896 and my Gt Grandmother married in Govan.
Did they die in WW1?
Can anyone help please?

Australia / William CUBBON
« on: Wednesday 05 December 18 12:47 GMT (UK)  »
An ancestors brother, William Cubbon, was found guilty of forgery in the Isle of Man in 1847  and was transported on the HASHEMY in 1848 to Tasmania with a 10 year sentence.  Watching a programme yesterday it was mentioned that the locals wouldn’t let this ship disembark so the inmates were sent to South Australia with a ‘Ticket of Leave’
Is there anyway of finding out what happened to William Cubbon? Did he survive journey? Is there a copy of these tickets of leave?  Census for South Australia?
He left behind a wife and three daughters and can’t find that he returned.
Thanks

Census Lookup and Resource Requests / 1841 /51 census look up please
« on: Monday 28 August 17 21:56 BST (UK)  »
Mary Jane Burns , Fathers name John BURNS, married William Benjamin Alexander in Liverpool in 1859. Marriage certificate doesn't give their ages but William (mostly known as Benjamin) died 1868 aged 32. Their two sons were placed into an industrial school in 1869. Possible death for Mary Jane Alexander in 1876 aged 41 so this would make her born c1835 like William Benjamin.  1861 census gave her birthplace as Ireland.
Would it be possible if someone could kindly find her on 1841/51 Census please. Would love to see if I could find where in Ireland she was from, and other family members. Address on M/C was Vernon Court Liverpool.  She is down on one record, think Lancs BMD as Maria.
I was last looking at this a few years ago and think I may have found a Patrick Burns who may have been related but can't remember how I came to that conclusion- maybe an address, Vernon Court?
Thanks in advance.

Completed Census Requests / TYRER Henry 1841 Lancs Census look up
« on: Wednesday 24 March 04 01:57 GMT (UK)  »
I wonder if someone could very kindly do a look up on the 1841 Census for my Gtx4 Grandfather Henry TYRER.  Born c1774 Kirkby by Melling Liverpool so would be 67 on the Census.  Should be listed as Widower as his wife had died by 1841.
Would love to know his occupation - his son was as Ag Labourer on 1851 Census.
Hoping someone can help!
TIA
