Armed Forces / Minesweepers WW2

I wonder if anyone can provide additional details to these ship deployments. I am new to military records.

I know at least some of these were shore bases.

Any additional info would be greatly appreciated.

Essex / Montreal Road Chadwell St Mary

Newish to English records.

I’ve just downloaded a birth certificate in 1897, thanks to the reduced digital fee.

Address given as 8 Montreal Road, Chadwell St Mary.

The father was a marine engineer so presumably working in the docks. The family was here for only a short period of time, the only one of eleven born in England.

Does anyone know of any more information about this address in 1897, living conditions, type of accommodation etc.

Lanarkshire / Tradeston / Bridgeton 1922, 1925
« on: Saturday 29 July 23 12:54 BST (UK)  »
Slightly complicated request. I can’t see the wood from the trees and could do with a fresh pair of eyes.

Confirmed ancestor is Mary Miller, nee Keown. I have her in the 1921 census, the birth of her daughter 1921 and the 1922 electoral roll, all at the same address 11 Anderson St.

She died in 1930, still at 11 Anderson St.

Basically I am trying to prove that the Mrs Mary K Miller in the 1925 electoral roll in Bridgeton is not the same Mary Miller. I think trying to prove a negative is what is tying me in knots.

I have not been able find any more details of John & Mary Miller in 163 Greenhead St Bridgeton in 1925 to prove they are a different family although this is the most obvious answer.

I have copies of the relevant 1922 and 1925 electoral rolls but I think they are too large to post.

Any advice gratefully received.

Europe / German Translation

Could someone help me by telling me what I am looking at by providing a translation.

During lockdown I got carried away and downloaded a number of records without properly recording them.

I am interested in Wilhelm Ditzfeld.

Lanarkshire / Sutherland 1962
« on: Wednesday 22 March 23 16:31 GMT (UK)  »
I’m looking for information on a newly found distant ancestor. Piqued my curiosity given that I had never before heard of him.

Archibald Sutherland b 1903 Plantation d 27 September 1962

I have his lair record in Linn Cemetery extension where he is buried with other members of his family, his wife Kate & his mother in law, also Kate. He married in 1932 in Cathcart.

Lair record gives his parents as Eric Sutherland & Mary Gray.

Address is given as Croftside Ave, Glasgow.

I realise that this is relatively recent history and I don’t want to stray into living ancestors but as I said before, I am curious to find more about this previously unknown ancestor who was a distant relative.

Moray (Elginshire) / Hopeman 1921 census
« on: Wednesday 22 February 23 09:53 GMT (UK)  »
131/2 1/7 Does anyone know the street name associated with this reference. I believe it is in Hopeman.

I am following up a lead for a McPherson family in Hopeman: William McPherson 42, Mary McPherson nee Main 37 and William McPherson 1.

The reference is 131/2 1/7.

Before I go spending precious credits on a tentative link i wonder if anyone knows the street name for this reference. That would give me more confidence.

Moray (Elginshire) / Main family Dunbar St Hopeman
« on: Thursday 12 August 21 11:27 BST (UK)  »
Can anyone shed any light on this family moving forward from this 1891 census.

I know quite a lot about their history. The only member I know much about from this date forward is the son Daniel.I don't need any more information about him.

I cannot find much about the two sisters. I believe that Mary married William McPherson in 1915 (I have the certificate) but then I lose them. Both bride and groom lived in Dunbar St, Hopeman before marriage.

I cannot find any information for Elsie (Elspeth) after this 1891 census.

I believe the mother Mary died 1897 and the father James in 1920.

It is mainly the two sisters I am interested in. Where did they go after this census and the marriage in 1915.

Dumfriesshire / Terregles Cemetry Look up
« on: Saturday 15 May 21 15:18 BST (UK)  »
I have a grave reference for Lachlan Thomson in Terregles Cemetery, burial register

1st Extension, section 5, lair 99 (possible mark looking like 199)

Date of burial 12 July 1971.

I know there are additional ashes in this grave, his son Donald, buried 13 Feb 1989.

I would be interested to know if there was any additional information on the headstone, if there is one.

South Africa / Tannahill South Africa
« on: Wednesday 10 June 20 22:16 BST (UK)  »
This is my first foray into South African records.

I have come across these two records in Ancestry.

Gavin Kerr Tannahill death 1930 South Africa, Transvaal Province

William Tannahill death 1955 South Africa, Transvaal Province

Both were born in Glasgow, Gavin in 1872, William 1879.

I believe neither of them married. I have them on a number of passenger lists to and from South Africa.

I would like help/advice on finding any information about their lives, and/or deaths in South Africa.
