Fife / Phillip Keddie born Monimail 1813
« on: Thursday 11 December 14 21:27 GMT (UK)  »

Hi there,
Phillip is my 3x gt grandfather.  I have found a record of his birth and several helpful family trees that confirm /suggest  his father is Phillip Keddie b. 1793 son of Robt Keddie and Janet nee Adamson in Wemyss but things are not as simple as they seem!

Phillip is baptised in Monimail in 1813 the son of Phillip K and Mary Mc Kie.   This or another Phillip snr goes on to have children  with wife Mary Gibb in Cupar in the following years.   They do not have a son Phillip.   Ok I thought, either McKie is a misprint, an earlier marriage or an illegitimate child.
BUT  Phillip and Mary Gibb's daughter Henrietta wrote a book about several generations of  the family (I have it on order)  and I've been told that there is no mention whatsoever of half brother Phillip.

What seems to make it more likely that my Phillip 1813 is the son of Phillip of Cupar is his Christian name.  Phillip 1793's mother's mother was Margaret Philp   and he is the first Phillip in the Keddie family.   His brother Robert also has a son Phillip born in 1820 who is definitely not my Phillip.
There are no others of that generation that I can find anywhere.

So , please,   any ideas how I might confirm once and for all my Phillip's paternity?

with many thanks, Alison in NZ

Flintshire / Holywell St James lookup please
« on: Friday 31 October 14 02:13 GMT (UK)  »
Hi there - my 3x gt grandparents Sarah Jones and Samuel Edwards married at Holywell on 6 Feb 1808.  I've seen a transcription of the record and it was particularly helpful - confirming their birth dates and even giving both sets of parent's names.  Both were otp.  However the 1851 census states they were both born in Paisley Renfrewshire!!.  They were then living in Liverpool.  He died before 1861 and in this census the widowed Sarah was listed as being born in  Holywell.

I'd particularly like to confirm Samuel's birth.  The marriage record gives him a birth year of 1787 (as do census records)  parents John & Elizabeth Edwards.  Could someone please check and see if he was born in Holywell and if it is not too difficult any indication of his parent's marriage.

Sarah was born in 1788 parents Edward and Anne Jones on her marriage record.  Again I'd really like to know if she was indeed born in Holywell and any more information about her parents.

with many thanks

Renfrewshire / Paisley parish baptism - Edwards
« on: Saturday 28 June 14 02:30 BST (UK)  »
My 3x gt grandfather Samuel Edwards stated on the 1851 Liverpool census that he was born in Paisley, Renfrewshire in approx 1787.  I'm not totally convinced as the same birthplace was given for his wife Sarah who was definitely born in Wales!   but I'd really appreciate it if someone could check  the baptismal records for him in Paisley.

Hi, I'm trying to confirm that my 3x gt grandmother Sarah Edwards nee  Jones who, according to the 1861 census  was born in Holywell  in c. 1788,  is the daughter of Edward Jones and Elizabeth nee Williams  and baptised in the Holywell RC church.  I've found a note to this effect but no evidence and wonder if anyone has access to the records.

I'm fairly certain she married Samuel Edwards in Nannerch in 1808 but once  again I would  like to confirm this and see if there is any further information in the records.  For eg. I think Samuel came from Renfrewshire and maybe this is stated on the record.

Shropshire Lookup Requests / Ellesmer parish records
« on: Sunday 30 January 11 02:16 GMT (UK)  »
Hi there,
can anyone please tell me whether there are parish records for Ellesmere that go back before 1630 for baptisms and c1655 for marriages. It would also be great to find some burial records.

I've just got some of my Mullineux family wills and they take me back before the records on the IGI

I'm quite happy to purchase therecords if they exist.  Otherwise if some kind soul could look up some C17 Ellesmere Mullineux    burials   for me  that would be a wonderful help also

many thanks indeed

Warwickshire Lookup Requests / War(e)ing Shipston on Stour lookup please
« on: Sunday 05 September 10 08:32 BST (UK)  »
I'm trying to find Elizabeth Wareing born c. 1710 She married Richard Haynes (a  quaker) in Banbury 1732.

I think she comes from the Shipston on Stour Quaker War(e)ings and would be really grateful if someone could look up her birth for me.    Most likely parents would be Charles Wareing of Shipston on Stour and Mary nee Potter who  married in Sibford Gower  in 1695.  (from Banbury Quaker records)

I have checked , Sibford Gower &  Banbury (& neighbouring parishes) and there is no baptism for her there so I'm hoping she was born in S on St.

many thanks

Northamptonshire Lookup Requests / Kings Sutton baptism Haynes/ Haines help please
« on: Wednesday 04 August 10 21:27 BST (UK)  »
Hi there,

Could someone please help me with a lookup in the 1640- 50ish  Kings Sutton baptismal registers.  I'm looking for the births of a (by 1665)  Quaker Haynes/ Haines etc family  who went on to marry in Banbury, Oxon.

I only have their marriage and in some cases death dates so their birth dates are a guess.  I know for certain the women were born in K.S.  the men are a bit more of a guess but very likely their brothers.

They are:  John Haynes (m. Mary Smyth 1665, d. 1691)
Elizabeth and Mary Haynes both m'd 1667 in Banbury Quaker meeting house to non local men, both born KS
Richard Haynes  (m Margaret 1664 poss in Aynho) d, New Jersey USA

John Haynes and Mary nee Smyth are my 8x gt grandparents

Worcestershire Lookup Requests / baptism Kempsey or close by - Oneil
« on: Tuesday 18 August 09 05:58 BST (UK)  »
hi there,

Can anyone please  help me by finding the baptism of my relative Charles O'neil.  On various censuses he says he was born in Kempsey, Worcs c. 1806.
I can't find him on the IGI or indeed any Oneils in Kempsey

He lived his adult life in Warrington Lancs and was a tanner.  His father could well be a William and mother possibly Catherine.

many thanks indeed

Lancashire Lookup Requests / Prescot Portico RC records - O'Neil
« on: Monday 17 August 09 08:57 BST (UK)  »
Hi there,
Does anyone have access to the parish records for the Portico RC church in Prescot please?   (I hope I've got the church name right!)

A distant relative has records of some of my O'Neil's there in the 2nd half of the 18th century but there are still a few tantalising gaps.

I'm especially looking for the birth of a William O'Neil in 1793, the marriage of a Michael O'Neil and Ann unknown c. 1770  and the marriage of a Patrick O'neil & Elizabeth unknown c. 1785.  Patrick's birth in 1757  and Michael's 10 years earlier would be a real bonus (probable siblings Hugh, Alice and Thomas)

I have all the Cof E records for these folk (I know their birth dates from their St Mary's burials)  but they seem to move between the 2 denominations.

many thanks for any help
