Ireland / James Conway
« on: Tuesday 27 February 24 17:51 GMT (UK)  »
I was reading about 106 year old James Conway on RTE's Brainstorm

https://www.rte.ie/brainstorm/2024/0226/1434430-james-conway-1889-skeleton-human-remains-trinity-college-dublin-research-ethics/

so I looked up his death cert and at first couldn't find it because he is transcribed as Conroy
https://www.rootschat.com/links/01t11/

I sent a correction but than thought will they agree? The writing is terrible, so just in case if a few other people also sent in a correction it might help at least give James his name if not a final resting place.

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / ThruLines is gone
« on: Friday 03 November 23 11:00 GMT (UK)  »
I don't have a subscription to Ancestry so this may only affect people who only have a DNA test with them.
In DNA summery and results page I get Unlock Exclusive DNA Features where ThruLines used to be, if I use the DNA drop down menu and choose ThruLines I'm taken to my match list, and if I click on View Relationship on a match with a common ancestor I'm again taken to my match list.

Not a great loss as it was so often incorrect but handy when it was correct or close enough as a guide to work it out yourself.

Have everyone lost it?

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / Is Unknown father also a match.
« on: Saturday 04 June 22 16:23 BST (UK)  »
I was recently given access to my 1st cousin's DNA on Ancestry, I have my own and my sister's.

Looking at my 1st Cousin's matches on her mother's side I am really starting to understand the difficulties some people face with low cMs, and lack of trees, I've only confirmed one DNA match on her mother's side.

There is one match in particular on her mother's side I'm trying to get my head around that I'd love your opinions on.

1st C and DK share 338cM
1st C and AP share 100cM
DK and AP share a common ancestor ER.
ER is DK's grandmother via her daughter E
ER is AP's great grandmother via the same daughter E
BUT the daughter E had first child with Unknown father, (DK's mother)
than married and had another daughter AP's grandmother.

It seems clear enough that 1st C is some how related to ER BUT
AP is also a match on 1st C father's side, to me at 37cM and my sister at 13 cM
I can trace this connection, we all share great great grandparents.

Am I right in thinking that AP's 100cM would be divided (probably unevenly) between both sides and given she is only one generation further down the line than DK at 338cM than 1st C could be related to both DK's mother E and Unknown father?

Westmeath / Page mix up in Collinstown Parish Register.
« on: Wednesday 01 December 21 19:51 GMT (UK)  »
I hope I can explain this clearly.
First this can’t be proved without seeing the original register.

On Film 04169/03 starting 12 May 1844
https://registers.nli.ie/registers/vtls000635118#page/1/mode/1up

The months do not run chronological, beginning May 12th than June, July, and August with 29th of August showing near the bottom of the page, the next page is badly damaged https://registers.nli.ie/registers/vtls000635118#page/6/mode/1up ( right hand) but it’s clear to see a set of baptisms and then August written clearly and a set of baptisms underneath. The next page https://registers.nli.ie/registers/vtls000635118#page/7/mode/1up (left hand)  has a couple of baptisms than May clearly written and goes on to June and July, the next page is September.

I believe the damaged page is a loose page from 1849 pushed into the incorrect year also put in reverse.

1849 has a gap https://registers.nli.ie/registers/vtls000635118#page/17/mode/1up
One baptism in April at the bottom of the left hand page and the next is Sept on right hand page.

I believe Luke Partland on the 8 April of the damaged page is the second April baptism of 1849.
All later records for Luke in Australia give him a birth year of c1852 also he has a sister baptised in 5 May 1844 on a different film.  I also tried to follow up some of the other children on the page, not so easy without townlands so I looked for marriages for the parents.
Two of the couples didn’t marry until 1847 Peter Fox and Mary Kain son Michael's baptism is on the damaged page and Christopher Lestrange and Mary Fagan son John’s baptism is on the damaged page.
If you have someone who appears to be baptised in 1844 when all other records indicate a birth closer to 1849 it would be worth checking if they are on this damaged page and decide for yourself.

Mainly just curious about Seumas/Seamus' relationship to the Fagans if any, I'm guessing he's a border.
