Down / Agnes Mathers of Carrowdore 1893ish
« on: Sunday 12 November 23 13:26 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all
I am wondering if anyone can help me find a birth or baptism record for this lady. She is Agnes Mary MATHERS born about 1892/3.

In 1901 she is living with her grandparents David and Mary McGowan at Ganaway, Carrowdore but is named on the census as Agnes MATHERS. Her mother is living next door with her husband.

In 1911 she is living with her mother Eliza MATHERS and her husband William, also at Ganaway. They have a further 3 children born between 1895 and 1906 and I can find all of their births.

William MATHERS (bachelor) and Elizabeth McGOWAN (spinster) married in Feb 1893 so I am thinking Agnes may not be the child of William Mathers.

I have searched under both surnames and all Agnes babies in Newtownards district and coming up with a blank.

I think Agnes married a Charles Crawford in 1922 and would also love to know if they had any children.

Both families are Presbyterian.

Thanks for any advice you can offer.

Yorkshire (North Riding) / RIPON phone number help
« on: Tuesday 30 May 23 11:40 BST (UK)  »
Hi all, this is a strange request! While searching for someone's birth family and a mother that has no mention after about 1948 I today found a newspaper advert in 1989 in a Manchester (her birth area) paper. Someone with the phone number 0765 89866 is seeking the husband of this lady (he had died long before that).  I am trying to find out who this number might belong to. I have tried calling all variations of updated number I can think of and they don't exist. I have started ploughing through the BT phone book for the area (Harrogate area) and have done A-C so far!! The latest phone book available was 1984. Numbers starting 89 tend to be the Masham area? I am thinking maybe this was a solicitor or the like and that the lady had died there. All speculation. The lady in question is called Marian Royle born 1915. Also a possibility she was attached to a religious order?
Anyone have any ideas how I can find any more about this advert or the phone number?
Thanks for any suggestions

Donegal / John Burns IRWIN of Rathmelton
« on: Thursday 06 October 22 18:07 BST (UK)  »
Hi all
Can anyone offer me any suggestions re finding a recent birth certificate.

I am seeking John Burns IRWIN born 29 Aug 1928 (according to his English death cert)
His grandson believes the family were from Rathmelton and he travelled over to England in his teens and married in England in 1956. His marriage cert shows no father details at all so I am assuming an illegitimate birth.

I have applied to the GRO for a birth cert using these details but they are unable to find a matching entry.
On the 1911 census there are only 2 IRWIN families in Rathmelton. One in Aghangaddy Glebe has no suitable age ladies to be his mother. The other family at 7 Back Lane contains Hannah ( aged 8 ) and Mary (6), either of which could be the mother.

I've also checked births in Scotland and England to no avail.

Other than waiting until 2028 to search the records myself online, any suggestions?
Thanks

Hello
I am trying to place some Evans DNA matches and trying to find the baptism of David EVANS born c 1806 in Sutton, Pembs to, I believe, George and Mary. Trying to also find any siblings of his as I think a sister maybe my clue to our match.
If anyone can point me in the right direction I would be very grateful.

Kent Lookup Requests / A recent baptism search at Canterbury Archives
« on: Thursday 30 September 21 18:19 BST (UK)  »
Hi
Does anyone make visits to the Canterbury Archives and could have a quick look for a baptism please.

I think they would have been baptised at St George the Martyr in Ramsgate in 1956/7. That church have told me that records prior to 1959 are now deposited with the archives.

Twins with the surname of ODDY born Summer 1956 and living at the time at Camden Square, Ramsgate.

They are still alive and have asked me to try to find out if/where they were baptised. The family had moved away from Ramsgate by Summer 1957.

Clare / KILLOUGHERY family of Ennistymon
« on: Wednesday 03 March 21 13:47 GMT (UK)  »
Hello
Can anyone explain why I am unable to find the registration of a RC marriage that took place in 1878. I have found the entry in the Parish records of Liscannor so I know that Michael Killuhry (one of many, many spellings!) of Ballyfardeen married Bridget Neylon on 12 Feb 1878. I would love the see the bmd registration to see a father's name for Michael but cannot find it anywhere.

I searched for some other names on the page and did find a batch of 4 in Ennistymon district but that was it!

Can anyone help or explain why this wouldn't be available?

Many thanks for any help

London and Middlesex / 65 Cromwell Avenue, Highgate in 1956
« on: Tuesday 07 July 20 23:07 BST (UK)  »
Hello, does anyone have any trade directories that may show which company was in this building in about 1956. In earlier times it was called India House and bears a blue plaque to Vinayak Damodar Savarkar. I am researching someone who gave that address as their workplace as a commercial clerk in 1956 and would love to know who they worked for. Many thanks.

World War One / Any info from this photo?
« on: Tuesday 27 August 19 19:11 BST (UK)  »
Can anyone give me any help to identify this man? This postcard photo was recently found in an old photo album. It is not stamped or dated so must have been sent in an envelope. The message on the back is from my grandfather, James Smith of Croydon to his wife Florence where he is just asking her for Tom's address (his brother I believe). Also written on the reverse in a different writing is "To Jack from Arthur" making me think this maybe Arthur???? The man is definitely not James Smith as I already have many wartime photos of him.

Can we tell anything from the uniform, cap badge etc??
Any clues much appreciated.
Thanks
Heather
