New Zealand Completed Requests / NEAL sisters arrival from Tasmania
« on: Wednesday 19 January 22 03:48 GMT (UK)  »
I am trying to find when 3 sisters arrived from Tasmania (I believe) to New Zealand. The girls are Ruth Olive Christina NEAL b 13.01.1893, Ethel Isabella NEAL b 30.03.1890 and Amy Rose NEAL b. 14.07.1895. All girls were born in Tasmania and all 3 died in New Zealand. Ruth died a spinster in 1918, and Ethel (Mrs Manning) and Amy (Mrs Cox) in 1977.
It would have been  after 1901 and before 1911 I believe as Edith married in NZ in 1911
Just after the arrival date and if they were sponsored and any other early information.
Many thanks.

Australia / Louisa Emily BENNETT Yarra Bend and Mont Park Asylum Victoria
« on: Wednesday 15 December 21 01:06 GMT (UK)  »
I have located the record for Louisa on PROV/Ancestry for her time in Yarra Bend Asylum. At the end of these records it is written "transferred to the hospital for the insane Mont Park". The entry previous to this was 30 Dec 1912
I cannot seem to find these Mont Park records. Is anyone able to help?
She died in 1943, the registration says at Mont Park, but I cannot find an actual death notice or burial place or actual date but I am unfamiliar with Victorian records.
Hope someone can advise.

Australia / Joseph CORREA date of arrival in Tasmania
« on: Wednesday 13 October 21 04:30 BST (UK)  »
Seeking the date this man arrived in Tasmania. Newspapers reported him as a native of Cape de Verde Islands. He was definitely in Tasmania in August 1879 as he was reported at the diggings at Mount Arthur. He married in Launceston in 1881, with his registered age as 24, thus a birth date of around 1857. His occupation was a cook at his marriage but he was later a laborer and chimney sweep. I have wives and children etc, just need when he arrived. Thanks in anticipation.

Australia / James SWAINSON policeman Tas and NSW?
« on: Wednesday 04 September 19 02:43 BST (UK)  »
Seeking to establish if James SWAINSON, who was a constable in Launceston, Tasmania and was promoted to Acting Sergeant around February 1859 is the same James Swainson who was a detective constable in NSW (Yass) in October 1864.
There is a record of a James Swainson leaving Hobart, Tasmania for Sydney in August 1861.
The last mention I can find of him in NSW was at the Central Police Court in May 1866.
Any information greatly appreciated.

Australia / Sarah Jane LYNN(E) Tasmania
« on: Tuesday 26 February 19 23:51 GMT (UK)  »
Seeking information on the parents of Sarah Jane Lynn(e). She was supposedly born in Tasmania according to newspaper and police reports, and was sometimes known as "Darkey Jinny". In newspaper reports she was described a being a "creole girl" and in Tasmania Police Gazettes as being a "Mulatto".
She was in both the Hobart and Launceston areas and was imprisoned in 1874 for larceny by the Supreme Court, which had her age as 27 so a birth year of around 1847. However, a later 1876 newspaper report had her age at 34.
She did have many minor brushes with the law resulting in fines and small sentences.
Her mother is mentioned in a newspaper report in December,1872, but it does not name her. She reportedly had helped her daughter out of her last police 'troubles" about 5 weeks previously.
Thanks in anticipation.
