Buckinghamshire / Rev. wilfred lawrence palk float. (1885 - 1983)
« on: Tuesday 09 November 21 14:53 GMT (UK)  »
Whilst searching for the background story of this elusive Cleric I came across another Cleric of the same name, having obtained the same Degrees, at the same college but having a birth date of 1925 and a death date of 1950, buried at High Wycombe. Wilfred the elder was recorded on numerous trans-Atlanic crossings as being single. He is recorded as marrying Nancy T. Taylor, at Brighton in 1962 when he was 77 years old. Despite hours of searching through records I find no mention of Nancy (other than the wedding) neither can I find the mother of Wilfred junior. Both Wilfreds were buried at High Wycombe and I have Wilfred Snr's mother, Sarah Maria Float (1862-1944) also being buried there. With a name like that, what are the chances of having two that, not only share the name but certain geographical details as well. Wilfred Senior is in the Family book of records as being the oldest person to marry but something's not quite right ... can anyone help?

Anglesey / Mystery Reverend
« on: Monday 04 June 18 22:19 BST (UK)  »
I have a copy of the Llaneugrad Parish Registry, (2 pages), for 1884 that shows the burial of my Great Great granfather, Michael Richards on August 17, 1884.
The officiating cleric for 15 of the 16 entries on these pages is the Curate, John Williams. The cleric that officiated at Michael's burial is shown as the cleric R. Richards. I've had a search for this chap but can't trace him either living in Anglesey at that date or listed in the Bangor Diocese.
A simple search for a  'Richards' produced a surprising Rev. John Richards, Vicar of St. Beuno at Aberffraw. Nothing to get excited about except that this Rev. John, (not to be confused with the Rev. john Richards of Llanerchymed, Michael's father) is shown as being born within a couple of miles of where my family originated, Lledrod in Cardiganshire. The Rev. John of Llanerchymedd was born there in 1757. It doesn't explain who R. Richards was but shows this coincidental link in the family chain. Could the R be a short version of Rev.
There are 8 vicars in the family .... is there another one out there? Any ideas?

Surrey / Mary Richards - Pid or Pitt Parade, Epsom.
« on: Tuesday 22 August 17 19:03 BST (UK)  »
Mary, (1776-1846) and her family are shown, in the 1841 census, as residing at Pid Parade, Church St., Epsom. I see from the Epsom Heritage Site a contemporary watercolour of Pitt Parade, a house close to  St. Martins of Tours Church. (Her husband, Edward Richards, was the Curate here for many years).
Was there a name-change of the location or is it just a mistake? I would like to attribute the house in the painting to their branch of my family tree ... just a small doubt about the name.

Surrey / Henry Richards, the son of Rev. Edward and Mary (was Bridges).
« on: Thursday 20 October 16 18:14 BST (UK)  »
Hi again.
Edward and Mary of Epsom had 6 sons. I have  traced and have details for 5 of them but one remains a mystery. Henry Richards, B1806, Epsom. I can't find anything about him at all but there is a Henry Richard of a similar age, born in Epsom and, in the 1851 census is show as married to an Elizabeth, B1803 and a child, Mary, B1850. Henry, like his brother Thomas, is shown as a surgeon. We last used Richard as a surname in 1675 but variants do pop up now and again. This Henry is shown as Richard in the 1861 census too so he may well be a red-herring.
Any info on the real Henry would be appreciated.
                                                 Regards.

Surrey / Sir Henry Bridges, Knight. Family connection needs clarification.
« on: Tuesday 18 October 16 19:14 BST (UK)  »
Hi.
I'm trying to fill in some family background for my GGG grandfather's brother, the Rev. Edward Richards, born Lledrod, Cardiganshire in circa 1763. Edward married Mary Bridges in July 1800 when he was the curate of St. Martins of Tours in Epsom. They had 9 children and lived at Church St. Epsom.
I do have  some pencilled details for Mary but haven't been able to identify her parents. (Sir Henry Bridges, Knight, was a witness to Edward's will in 1833, along with Jonathan Eades; they owned the Gunpowder Mills in the Ewell area). Sir Henry was born in1786, Mary was born in 1776 so they could have been siblings. Another note I made states that, at marriage in 1800, Mary had inherited her father's estate, "Charlwood", (as well as her sister's estate).
Can anyone fill in the blanks as to who her parents were and her relationship to Sir Henry.

Anglesey / John Richards (Jnr), Llangadwaladr.
« on: Thursday 29 September 16 10:35 BST (UK)  »
Hi.
I'm trying to  add more detail to my tree-entry for John Richards, (1835-1877), born at Hen Siop, Llangadwaladr
I have a pencilled note that he married a Margaret Owen, (B1839) but I haven't been able to fix a date for the marriage or any resulting family. In the 1861 John is at Llangadwaladr ... in the 1871 census a John and Margaret Richards of the correct age are shown at Llangristiolus.
There are no further details that I can find for them after this date. New facts would be welcome.

Lancashire / Mary Cartmell Lewis, (B1875), Liverpool.
« on: Wednesday 27 January 16 09:43 GMT (UK)  »
I'm looking for any details for Mary Cartmell Lewis, born in Liverpool in 1875. Her father was said to be John Lewis and this is the person that I have most interest in. Mary was my Grandmother on my paternal side ... she married my Grandfather, Thomas Richards, (1875), at Manchester in 1889. Using 'Family search' whilst trying to place him in my tree I came across the 1891 census for Holyhead that has a John Lewis, (B1857), plus a son and 4 daughters, one of which is a Mary Lewis, born 1875. Unfortunately they show John as being born "Anglesey, England" with all of the children born in England.
My family are from Anglesey and I've always wondered how Thomas met and married Mary. After their marriage they moved back to Anglesey and in the 1901 census Mary is shown as being a Welsh speaker, whether because she was so-called 'Liverpool Welsh' or whether she is the Mary shown, living at Holyhead in the 1881 census remains to be discovered, with your help and assistance.
My eldest sister was named Margaret Mary Cartmell Richards and my brother, Thomas Emrys so it may well be that Mary's mother was named either Mary or Margaret in the traditional way. The mother is not shown on the Holyhead census for 1881.
Hoping that someone can shed some light on this topic.    Regards from Sweden.

Canada / Richards brothers. Patagonia to Canada, 1902
« on: Sunday 19 July 15 12:51 BST (UK)  »
I'm looking for the descendants of 3 of 6 children, all brothers, that went to Canada, from the Welsh settlement in Patagonia, (via Liverpool), to Saskatchewan in 1902, . They were the children of William Emberson Richards, B 1838 and all were born in Anglesey.
William Emberson Richards, Jnr. B 1876
                         Robert Parry Richards                B 1877
                         Michael John Richards                B 1880

I have a note that they settled in the Saltcoats area. Does anyone have further details for these three gents?

Anglesey / Marriage details for Jane Richards, (1852) Llanbabo.
« on: Monday 18 May 15 13:56 BST (UK)  »
A small mystery whilst re-checking detail.
Jane was the youngest daughter of Michael Richards of Bod-Deiniol farm, Llanbabo. In the 1881 census she is shown living with her father and sisters at Bod-Deiniol, unmarried, with one child, Harriet Richards, (1876-1969).
At the marriage of her brother, William Emberson Richards, in 1876 there is a Jane Hughes in attendance.
In the 1891 census, (after the death of her father in 1883), she is shown at the farm as married to a Robert Hughes, (1853), of Llanwenllwyfo. He is shown as, "Head".
The child Harriet has, in the meantime, been passed to Jane's brother Robert at Llanrhyddlad and, in the 1891 census appears as his daughter, Harriet Richards, dress-maker, aged 15.
Does anyone have a marriage date for Jane and Robert. Be warned that Robert also had a daughter named Jane, (1880) married to an Owen Hughes of Holyhead in 1913.
                      Regards from Peter.
