New Zealand / RAF New Zealand
« on: Yesterday at 16:39 »
Could anyone tell me how to search records of men who served in the RAF in WWII? Man concerned allegedly came from New Zealand. Any advice as to which website would provide most info - don't mind paying subscription but this is the first NZ ancestor (well - distant inlaw!) I have encountered - and am not sure how much I've heard is anecdotal!!

Thanks for any hints.

Lancashire Lookup Requests / livingston drive near sefton part
« on: Sunday 26 January 20 13:10 GMT (UK)  »
I don't know whether this is possible - but if it is I'm sure this is the right place to ask! I want to find someone on the 1881 census - but don't know what name she was using at the time. I have a sneaking suspicion she could have been living in the sefton park area - maybe Livingston drive. Is there anyway I can find the listings for that road without a name?
Thanks for any help in advance

London & Middlesex Lookup Requests / Powell couple
« on: Sunday 30 June 19 13:29 BST (UK)  »
Does anyone have a suggestion how I could trace ANY info about a couple that I have very little information about please? This is a long term search - and probably there is no answer unless someone recognises the address as being part of a family tree.

In 1958 they were travelling to Mombasa in Kenya.

Mr K Powell
DOB: 25/2/21 Address in UK: 128 Orange Hill Rd, Edgware; occupation Education officer

Mrs A Powell DOB: 4/7/31, Address as above; housewife

Maybe someone has the above address in the family tree?

Thanks anyway for any suggestions or help

Lancashire Lookup Requests / Probably an impossible request?
« on: Tuesday 16 April 19 17:26 BST (UK)  »
In the 1939 register my stepfather's family are living in 189 Park Road, Liverpool 8. Stepfather's wife is Ada Jane (nee Beck). Stepfather is Felix Edward Allen, a cowkeeper/dairyman, born 24 April 1893 in Yorkshire.
What I want to know, but don't know how to find out, is the name of the family living at that address before the Allen family. We have heard stories that there was an Irish family living there - also cowkeepers - but we don't have a name. Maybe they were an earlier family. We think they came over from what is now Northern Ireland, and we are trying to link the two families.
Can anyone help - I just don't know where to begin, but thank you all in advance

London & Middlesex Lookup Requests / London Italian famil?
« on: Wednesday 13 February 19 15:49 GMT (UK)  »
I am trying to trace the Kent family who lived in London. William Cornelius Kent was born 1914 and married Emma Cassettaria in Bermondsey in 1940. This seems to be an Italian family – they own a café in London. We didn’t know anything of this Italian connection until my son in law’s DNA on ancestry threw up a cousin who matched (but who hasn’t been on the site for a year , and has no online tree). Does anyone have any knowledge or suggestions about the family – Emma’s father Luigi (b 1886 -  don’t know where) died 1971 in Southwark.

Our research is really with the Kents but we've become intrigued and sidetracked by this up to now unknown twig of the tree. Equally impressed that the DNA results have produced this high level of confidence.

Thanks for any help. Lesley

Yorkshire (East Riding & York) Lookup Requests / lowsley-lee
« on: Saturday 03 November 18 12:13 GMT (UK)  »
Could someone help me with a marriage which appears to be from my tree, but I can't trace the couple. March 1897 Daniel Lee (27) married Sarah Elizabeth Lowsley (22) in Sculcoats Hull. I cant find Elizabeth on my quite large tree. There is another Lowsley/Lousley family in Sculcoats at this time, but the marriage cert suggests this is my clan. I have the marriage cert.

Sarah's father was John Lowsley, lighterman, deceased by 1897, which is a common name in my family (the other Lousleys have more Irish sounding forenames). Also Sarah's address is 11 George St, Lime Street, which I'm sure my family lived in at some point (but I can't pinpoint them.)

This may turn out to be one of my brick walls so I am keeping my fingers crossed.

Daniel's father was Robert Lee, Builder's foreman also of George St. the witnesses are Benjamin Lowsley (one of my family names) and Ann Vale

Thanks for any help or info

Lancashire / George Clarke's Old House, New Home - Garston
« on: Friday 20 July 18 07:47 BST (UK)  »
Hi everyone - can someone settle a family argument over the above TV programme. Now in my late 70s I lived most of my life in Garston, Liverpool, and my kids were all educated in that area. Although Imoved 10 years ago and my kids are now scattered, we were eagerly awaiting the George Clarke programme which is allegedly about a house in Garston. None of us can recognise the Art Deco semi that was featured (I grew up by the Garston docks). The 1930s semi reminded us of the posher parts of Allerton, Childwall or Woolton - we don't recognise which part of Garston it showed.

We spent most of the evening arguing about whereabouts in Garston such palatial palaces existed. Can anyone help?

Lancashire / Edmondson family Lancaster
« on: Monday 19 March 18 11:27 GMT (UK)  »
I have a will which was proved in 1913. Small legacies are left to members of the Edmondson family (unrelated to the deceased).I am trying to trace this family without success.
They are named as William Thomas Edmondson  and his sisters Mary, Alice and Florence (who were all given maiden names so were presumably unmarried. The address given for the 3 women was 63 Borrowdale Road Lancaster.

Any help gratefully received. Thank you
