« on: Monday 14 November 16 08:14 GMT (UK)  »
Looking for a 'Sidney Street' in a Street Map of Melton Mowbray from circa 1906 - doesnt seem to be there now ...

Wondered if anybody had a source for old Street Maps or some indication if it was demolished or renamed ?

Thanks in anticipation !

London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / A birth in Chelsea ..... late 1882
« on: Tuesday 09 December 14 16:59 GMT (UK)  »
Looking for more detail on the parentage of a Lily Harding, Civil Regn is 4Q 1882 Chelsea .... wondering if anyone has access to Baptism Index to save time ?

I cant find this girl on the 1891 census FindMyPast, nor can I see a likely death pre-1901 in FreeBMD, so suspect that Registration is wrongly spelled - it may be surname Harden, perhaps forename Lillian .... (who does appear in 1891, shown as born Chelsea)

My thanks in anticipation of help.

Moderator comment: edited for content. Please see out 'guidelines for posting'

Do not ask for look-ups from commercial sources.
Most commercial sources have strict 'Terms of Use', which forbid publishing their data elsewhere, so asking for such look-ups is also asking people to ignore the 'Terms of Use'.

===============================

The whole premise of this site is to assist in finding people using available resources - lost count of the number of times I've seen people respond to Census and Baptism requests .... maybe the requests arent overt, but the resources are still being used ...

Moderator comment: you can ask for look-ups but must not specify which site because you don't have a valid subscription. Regular users here know which sites to look at with regards to London & Middlesex parish registers

Surrey Lookup Requests / Fitzherbert Alford married in Southwark, 1792
« on: Friday 24 May 13 14:20 BST (UK)  »
but we are struggling to find his origins ....

where would one search online for a Baptism record? - Familysearch doesnt seem to have him.

[His name was spelled as 2 words in 1792, but his son also Fitzherbert (1798) and other later descendants spell it conventionally...]

Any help appreciated!

Completed Census Requests / Carrie Hope RECKNELL born 4Q 1879 ++ COMPLETE ++
« on: Wednesday 22 May 13 16:29 BST (UK)  »
Births Dec Q of 1879

Recknell,  Carrie Hope     London C.  1c 34

This lassie only appears on the 1891 census - where it stated that she was born in Melbourne, Australia ..... !!

She marries my friends ancestor in Edmonton in 1906 and then states her real PoB ... also shows her Father's name as Samuel Recknell.

We cant find her on the 1881 census, so cant verify parents - altho there is a marriage that looks 'right':-

Marriages Sep Q of 1877

Harding,  Mary Elizabeth    Hackney  1b 717
RECKNELL,  Samuel     Hackney  1b 717

I can see the said Mary E with kids in 1891 & 1901, but never with Carrie ...

Would be grateful for a fresh pair of eyes in 1881 and 1901, just to complete the set.

I wondered if she emigrated for a few years, but cant see it.

My thanks in anticipation, L

Technical Help / FTM 2011 - print quality when spinning Tree off to One Page PDF
« on: Monday 01 October 12 11:34 BST (UK)  »
Anybody got any ideas on improving 'sharpness' when a PDF is created and printed?

Not a big Tree - some 95 names, but printing a 'Poster' format created via 'One Page' PDF is not clear at all - A3 paper, excellent printer etc etc ... the text is big enough to read, but the resolution is very poor, for example, it is hard to distinguish between a '1' and a '2'.....is there anything that can be done about this?  I've tried 3 or 4 differnt fonts (Arial, Calibri, Consolas ...)

I cant see any obvious settings I could change ?

I prefer a PDF as I can easily send it to others on the Tree ...

would be very grateful for any pointers

Scotland / Marriages 20th Century
« on: Thursday 13 September 12 14:23 BST (UK)  »
my first venture in Scotland.

I couldnt find a marriage in E&W for my couple, and as the bride was born in Leith c1910, I've bought some credits for Scotlands People.

But I cant find the marriage - it should be before 1937 when a child was born in England.

w/o breaking any rules can anyone advise what I might try with the options on spelling etc.?

Its Jessie Corsie Lindsay to Cecil Ro(w)land Allen. (both now deceased)

Also Jessie's Parents marriage is eluding me - George Lindsay to a Corsie surname bride (she was allegedly born in the Orkneys)

Many thanks for any pointers.

L
