Ireland / Burke wild geese from???
« on: Saturday 29 October 11 11:23 BST (UK)  »
We are descandants in the eight generation from an Irish called John Burke.

Don't laugh, this is serious ::)
We found Joannes (Flemish for John or Shawn) Burke, mentioned as spouse of the late Maria Vanhouteghem, died widowed in 1729 in Ostend, Belgium. The only marriage we find for her is the one in 1711 at  Anzegem, Belgium to Joannes Vandenbulcke. We traced our roots back to Edmond (Edmund) Burke (also spelled Burcke), married Leffinge in 1733 to Phillipina Marissael.
Baptism nor funeral found for John or Edmund. The tale in the family is that they were wild geese from Ireland, probably Mayo or Galway.
We only have those two names and the family legend to trace them back to Ireland.
As Flanders had different rulers during that time, we are also looking for data in France(Nord-Pas de Calais) and the Netherlands. A birth certificate of one of the two could give additional information from where they or their parents originated.

Keep my fingers crossed!  8)
