« on: Tuesday 27 August 13 19:38 BST (UK)  »
Sources for Irish Family History, by James G. Ryan (pub. 2001) cites a publication: A study of the surname Hynes as found in Athlone and surrounding area.  Edward A. Hynes, 1981.  Does anyone know anything further about this item or its author?  Manuscript?  Location?  I've checked WorldCat.  Thanks for any tips.

Westmeath / Directory entries for blacksmiths?
« on: Saturday 25 August 12 01:34 BST (UK)  »
Several records give the occupation of members of the Hynes family of Ballymurry, Ballyloughloe, Westmeath as blacksmith.  I realize that  every place needed a blacksmith.  However, does anyone know if any of the directories such as Slaters would have an entry for such a small place and common occupation?  Thank you.

Offaly (Kings) / Townlands of Ballyvlin and Keeloge
« on: Saturday 25 August 12 01:18 BST (UK)  »
The information I have indicates that members of my Egan family were born in the townlands of Ballyvlin [Ballyolin] and in Keeloge [Keelogue].  Both are in the civil parish of Wheery or Killagally according to Lee's Offaly Through Time.  I know approximately where Ballyvlin is and that it was on the King estate.  Can someone tell me where Keeloge is in relation to Ballyvlin and about how far away?  I'm interested in knowing about the family's life before they emigrated in 1893.  (Google Maps is a wonderful invention, but it doesn't deal well with townlands -- at least not for me.)   Any information appreciated!
