Dorset / Joseph Habersham 1728-1796
« on: Tuesday 23 July 24 15:30 BST (UK)  »
Joseph Habersham born 1728 ,Beverley E Yorks, married Carolina Moore in London 1755. Carolina died 1759 after the birth of third child.
In 1774 he is living in Tarrant Gunville, Dorset, and then remarries  Sarah Rogers . They have a son , James 1783.   Joseph was my wife's 5th great grand uncle.
James marries Harriet Mead  nee Greenstock,, a widow of Stalbridge  . Harriet Mead (born 1789) was my 3rd great grand aunt.
I have often wondered why Joseph moved to live in rural Dorset following his career in London.

Durham / William Smith marriage
« on: Monday 18 March 24 12:28 GMT (UK)  »
I am trying to establish the marriage details of William Smith. Born Hull c1790. I have a potential marriage with Margaret Davi(e)s in 1812 at Stockton-on-Tess  24th February, but the record on FindMyPast has no spouse's birthplace.(William)
The 1851 Census shows them living in Gateshead with Margaret's birthplace as Stockton on Tees. Is there any other link I can use to establish if these are the people I am researching? This also shows William's birthplace as Hull.
Thanks

Some more "housekeeping" has revealed further photos without any reference as to location.
Can anyone please help with this one which I think may be in Yorkshire.

The Common Room / Music
« on: Friday 24 November 23 10:51 GMT (UK)  »
I wonder if anyone can help me on this please.

I am seeking a copy of a piece of music "The nearness of Christ" for mixed voices. It was in a Salvation Army "Allelulia" Collection many years ago.

Words by Miriam Richards with  music arrangement by Norman Bearcroft.
Happy to defray postage or copying costs.

Thanks

Armed Forces / MNRP South Shields
« on: Friday 04 August 23 16:35 BST (UK)  »
My late father-in-law, Arnold Smith, served in the Merchant Navy from 1938 to 1941 when he was medically discharged and brought home from Montevideo. I believe for the remainder of the war he worked for or was a volunteer in South Shields for a group known only to me as MNRP.
Can anyone please enlighten me as to what this organisation was?
Grateful thanks in anticipation.

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Stalbridge High Street
« on: Saturday 03 September 22 12:23 BST (UK)  »
Some while ago (2008) I spent a few hours at the family home town of Stalbridge Dorset, looking particularly for the sites of various family homes. One of the pictures I took was of the main street.
Some time later when looking through a bundle of old photos passed down to me from my father, was a picture of the main street from an almost identical spot. Is it possible to date this second picture please?
