Canada Lookup Request / Boesse family of Quebec
« on: Monday 20 August 07 03:00 BST (UK)  »
I am searching for information in Quebec concerning Edward Boesse, who married Anna Campbell, in Quebec before the birth of their son, who was born in Sept., of 1838. That son was named Edward D. Boesse. They had another son named Oscar P. Boesse, who was born in ca. 1848-51. The couple had moved to the United States for awhile, but returned to Quebec at some point, and their sons used to visit them there. It is said that Edward Boesse was born in France, but his being born in Quebec is a distinct possibility. Anna Campbell was said to have been born in Quebec. The couple most likely died there. Their surname was spelled variously as: Bosse, Bosey, Bossie, and finally Boesse. This family had connections to Hancock, MA. and Berlin, N.Y. in the United States. Can anyone help find information concerning this family in Quebec? Any help at all would be very much appreciated.

Sussex Lookup Requests / John and Thomas Mayo, cannon makers, in the 1500's
« on: Tuesday 13 March 07 14:21 GMT (UK)  »
I am searching for the parents and family origins in Sussex County, England of two brothers, John and Thomas Mayo. They were cannon makers of great importance in the mid-1500's, and are thought to have originated in Sussex County. Their cannons still exist in Plymouth, MA., U.S.A.; the Guernsey Islands; and in Fort Nelson and in Woolwich, London; all made in the 1550's.

On June 26, 1555, in recognition for their previous services, they were appointed gunners in the Tower of London, as cannon makers. Thomas Mayo, gunfounder unto her Majesty, died in London Oct. 9, 1573. I am not sure if that is the date of his death, the date his will was written, or the date his will was probated in London. In his will, he mentions his wife, Elizabeth Mayo, and his brother, John Mayo, but mentions no children.

It is believed that these Mayo brothers came from Sussex, England and possibly that their families worked in metals or that the Mayo brothers were apprenticed to the great gunfounders in Sussex, England, where this trade was prevalent in the 1500's.

I am searching for any information concerning John and Thomas Mayo and their family origins in Sussex County, England. I understand that few records exist for this time period I am researching; however, I am hoping that if their family was early iron workers or silversmiths or worked with metals, there may be information concerning them going further back in time in Sussex, England.

My own Mayo family fought at the Battle of Hastings under William the Conqueror and were rewarded with lands in Cornwall, where they lived many generations until my line moved to Marston St. Lawrence in the 1550's and went on to Farthinghoe and Thorpe Mandeville in Northamptonshire; and then to Leiden, Holland; then to North Newington, Oxfordshire; and then finally to America in 1638.

Any help in getting further information concerning these Mayo brothers, cannon makers, would be very much appreciated.

3. ALEXANDER MUSCO: m. Sara Norwich in St. Dunstan, Stepney, Middlesex in 1728.

9. SALVATOR MUSCOE: married in the London area in 1674 or shortly before, spouse unknown. He lived on Monmouth Street in St. Giles-in-the-Fields, where his children were born. They were: Salvator, Jr. ( b. Dec. 28, 1674 ), Joseph, Jane ( b.c. 1677/78 ), Elizabeth ( b.c. 1680 ) and possibly other children. There are probably baptism, marriage and burial records for this family in the St. Giles-in-the-Fields Parish Church, which still holds the early records with copies sent to the National Archives.

I strongly think that all of these Musco/Muscoes are connected. I would be interested in any information about any of them, if it exists. Any help at all would be most welcome and appreciated.

London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / Musco and Muscoe family of London area
« on: Sunday 03 December 06 02:58 GMT (UK)  »
I am searching for information concerning the following Muscoe family in St. Giles-in-the-Fields near London:

1. Salvator Muscoe: was born in Italy and was a stone mason and came to the London area after the Great Fire of 1666. He married spouse unknown in 1674 or shortly before. They lived on Monmouth Street in St. Giles-in-the-Fields, about one mile from St. Paul's Cathedral, where it is said that Salvator worked as a stone mason. He had son, Salvator Muscoe, Jr. on Dec. 28, 1674 on Monmouth Street in St. Giles-in-the-Fields. His other children were: Jane ( born ca. 1677/78 ), Elizabeth ( born ca. 1680 ), and Joseph ( birth year unknown ). According to apprentice records, Salvator, Jr. was a stone mason apprentice to Richard Collet of the Vintner's Company from 1686 to 1693. He may have been an apprentice to a lawyer or solicitor after that, as he was a lawyer later in life. He did not attend any of the Inns in the London area to study law. Joseph Muscoe was a stone mason apprentice to John Young and then Thomas Staines from 1695 to 1702 for the Masons Company. These apprenticeships took place in the London area.
According to Joseph's apprenticeship papers, his father, Salvator Muscoe, Sr. may have died in 1695 or before. Salvator Muscoe, Jr. and his sister, Elizabeth Muscoe, were in the Rappahannock River area of Virginia by 1702 if not earlier. Their sister, Jane Muscoe, married John Collingwood in 1714 in Barking, Essex, England, and it appears they had no children. John Collingwood was a victualler in Ratcliffe, St. Dunstan, Stepney, Middlesex, England when he died. His widow, Jane Collingwood, died in St. Ann's in Soho in the 1740's.
St. Giles-in-the-Fields still has their early records as does the National Archives. I am searching for any records concerning this family in the St. Giles-in-the-Fields Parish Church. Can anyone help me concerning this family and its origins?

I am searching for information concerning the following family in London, England:

1. Salvator Muscoe was born ca. 1645 in Italy and he came to London, England after the great fire of 1666 to find work. His occupation was stone carver or stone mason. He married Mary ( maiden name possibly Beverley ) and had the following children in London:

a. Salvator Muscoe, Jr.: born or baptized Dec. 28, 1674 in St. Giles-in-the-Fields, London, England.

b. Jane Muscoe: was born between 1674 - 1680. m. a Mr. Collingwood in London, who died and left her a widow. She died after 1732 in London , the year her will was written.

c. Elizabeth Muscoe: was born in London ca. 1680.

This family resided on Monmouth Street in London. They emigrated to Gloucester County in Virginia in ca. 1685, where Salvator, Jr. and sister, Elizabeth, remained. Their sister, Jane, returned to England, and it is strongly possible, that their parents did also.
Any help in researching this family would be very much appreciated.

US Lookup Requests / Census record look-up request for U.S.A.
« on: Monday 28 August 06 13:34 BST (UK)  »
I am in need of the following:

1. Census look-up in Gardiner, Kennebec County, Maine for Mary Allen and parents in the censuses for 1880, 1870, 1860, and 1850. Mary Allen was in Boston, MA. by 1887. Her child's birth record stated that she was born in Gardiner, Maine, but I did not find an age for her on that record. I am trying to find information about Mary Allen and her siblings and parents, through census records.

2. I think you mentioned that you search birth, marriage, and death records in the U.S.A. If so, I am trying to locate Mary ( nee Allen ) Dammerrell ( has various spellings )'s birth, marriage, and death record. She was definitely born in Gardiner, Maine but unfortunately her birth year is not known. There is no record of a marriage for her and Thomas Dammerrall in Boston or Chelsea, MA. in the time period before the birth of their first child in 1887. Thomas was born in Chelsea, MA. So possibly they were married in the bride's home town of Gardiner, Maine during that time frame. Mary ( Allen ) Dammerrall was a widow and a cook, living at 5 Bicknell Avenue in the Roxbury area of Boston, Mass. in 1910, with her daughter, Leonie...don't mix them up with another widow named Mary Damrell and daughter, Leonora...they are 2 different Mary's.
Mary ( Allen ) Dammerrall died probably in Boston, MA. after 1910. Perhaps checking the 1920 and 1930 census for her in Boston, MA. might narrow down the time frame for her date of death?
I know that this is alot to ask, so if you are only able to do some of the items above, that will be okay. Any help at all would be most appreciated.
