Leitrim / Clancy of Tullahurk, Leitrim
« on: Saturday 16 September 17 01:16 BST (UK)  »
Looking for family of John Clancy who married Elizabeth on 26 Nov 1896 at Kinlough RC Church. Witnesses William Gallagher & Bridget Gellespee.

John Baptised on 16 Nov 1848, son of Peter & Kitty McGowan, resident of Tullahurk, Leitrim, at Kinlough RC, who married 8 Feb 1847 at Kinlough RC. Wedding Witnesses: Thady Clancy and John McGowan.

Siblings: Catherine Bapt 1854 and Elizabeth Bapt 1859 at Kinlough RC.

John Died 17 Mar 1920, age 72 in Derryherk, informant Elizabeth, widow of John. John was denied a Pension from Jan 1909 - Nov 1911 on the grounds that his age couldn’t be confirmed in 1841 Census with parents. John was a Farmer & Carpenter.

A Peter Clancy (&Co) in Tithe Applotments (1823-37) on small farm in Drumachrin, Clogher, Innismacsaint near Ballyshannon could be his father.

Cheshire Lookup Requests / ASHTON - Cheadle
« on: Monday 16 April 12 06:58 BST (UK)  »
Please help!
I am looking for Marriage details of Amy Ashton, mother of Sampson Ashton and his unknown father who it seems, like Sampson, was also an engine driver.

Sampson was born between 1834-39 in Cheadle, Stockport, Cheshire. He married Rachel Higginbottom, a Weaver, on 29 Dec 1856 at St. Mary’s Church, Cheadle. Both Rachel and Sampson were living in Brinksway in between Cheadle and Stockport at the time of their wedding where Sampson was a Fireman. Sampson died 14 December 1921, age 93 at Albert Rd, Birkenhead. Buried in Pompallier Anglican Cemetery, Glenfield, Auckland, Block C, Plot 119.

Sampson was on Electorate rolls in Christchurch 1880-90 and in Greymouth, West Coast 1900 - 14, and in Waitemata, Auckland 1919. In 1841 census of Bulkeley, Cheadle, Stockport, Cheshire there is an Amy Ashton, born 1811, mother of Sampson, born 1839. In 1851 census of Hayfield/Dinting (near Glossop) a Sampson Ashton, age 14 (born in Stockport) is living with Grandparents William Clayton & Deborah (age 65 & 64), but this seems unlikely to be him as this Sampson was born 1837/9.

Deborah was born about 1786 in Glossop, Derbyshire/ Bretherton, Lancashire & William born 2 Oct 1786 in Chinly, Derbyshire. They also had a son named Sampson Clayton. Neither of their two daughters could have had Sampson Ashton as they didn’t marry an Ashton. It is most likely Deborah may have been an Ashton before marriage, but this needs more investigating.

I have also found 3 other Amy Ashtons of Stockport area, one born about 1790 in Hyde, Cheshire who married William Ashton, another who was born abt 1854. An Amy Ashton also married Orlando Hague in 1840 at St Marys, Cheadle.

Split from original thread for better response
