Hi All,

I forgot which post I made requesting for help with finding O'Shaughnessy birth records in New Orleans, LA.

I want to let this amazing helpful Rootschatter who was very patient and worked with me throughout searching the records know that I find further records.

It was wonderful experience and i did order the birth records.

Last year, I was able to confirm the birth record on my great grandfather Joseph O'Shaughnessy with his Seamen's papers along with the photos of his like! We do not have any photo of him.

And the birth date was spot on his birth record and his baptismal record! The baptismal record has his name right. The birth record is correct despite "wrong" name.

My mom's cousin was thrilled with my findings. She even shared her memories of her mother and my Grandpa along with their brothers. Lovely tidbits!

So, I wanted to thank this person from the bottom of my heart!

Many, many thanks for all the help and your patience in this case.

Kind regards,

Tees

Dublin / Hello! I found two marriage records on my Lyons
« on: Tuesday 02 April 24 23:59 BST (UK)  »
Hello All!

I found two marriage records on my Lyons. Both are twins and they got married to Dunne siblings!

Luke Lyons married to a Julia Dunne in 1921.

Bridget Lyons married to a Daniel Dunne in 1920.

Both had a son named Samuel Dunne. They also have other children. I managed to find two children for each couple.

My chief interest is: their father Edward Lyons were down as a stonecutter/stone mason on their marriage records.

I am trying to find the death record on their father. I found a death record on Edward Lyons who is the stone cutter in 1917.  BUT his widow is Catherine.

I couldn't find a marriage record showing that his father is Luke but the closest record is in 1911.

I would appreciate any help or pointers so I can track down his death entry.

Thank you for your assistance in advance.

Kind regards,

Tees

Antrim / I think I found my great great grandmother under her maiden name
« on: Monday 31 August 20 17:39 BST (UK)  »
I think I have found my great great grandmother’s death entry in 1871 but she was under her maiden name, not her married name? Why was that?

You see, I found her husband being a widow in 1901 Irish Census. I have been combing death entries until today I think it is hers based on my experience with his will where he did not mentioned his daughter. It turned out she predeceased him.

It made sense that Margaret was not in her Father’s will whereas her siblings were listed.

Her name was Margaret (Jane) Armstrong but her married name is Mallon. I do know she had  a middle name which is Jane. Forgot where I saw that before.

I would like to know how we could confirm whether this entry is hers or not?

It sounds funny or strange to me because in our family there was a story about her running away from her married home?

Would there be any newspaper article or a gossip article on this subject? I know one cannot divorce back then. Not only that, it is a small village. It would be considered as a scandal?

Awaiting your expertise! She is the only one who had not fill into the blank in my Dad’s family tree? Once I have her death entry. I would consider that my family tree is completely finished.

Thank you for your help in advance,

Tees

PS I realise how useful the wills are! Especially if the names were not mentioned, it can mean one could be deceased.

Antrim / Where's wee Margaret McLarnon in 1911 Irish Census?
« on: Monday 31 August 20 08:52 BST (UK)  »
I have been trying to locate wee Margaret McLarnon in 1911 Irish Census.

She was down in 1901 census with her father Thomas and mother Rose Ann along with her brother John born in 1897 in Tullyrusk. Her father worked as a stone mason.

I managed to find Thomas in 1911 but with a new wife and a different set of children. Managed to locate Rose Ann's death entry.

I think I managed to find John McLarnon in 1911, not positively determined.

But, where's wee Margaret? She was born in 1899.

Your help would be much appreciated especially with fresh eyes. I am sure she is somewhere in Tullyrusk!

Gratefully yours,

Tees

I am trying to find Catherine Burns and her husband James and son James in 1901/1911 Irish Census.

I couldn't find them. I am positive they were still living in Lisburn area--their son James was born in 1890 in Derriaghy (or Derryagh).

Catherine Burns was down in her Father's will along with her siblings. That means she is alive. It does not mention a sibling who was deceased few years before her father's death which was confirmed by her death certificate.

Could a kind soul spot them for me?

Many thanks for your help in advance,

Tees

Cork / Need your help with reading her father's name
« on: Saturday 21 September 19 20:31 BST (UK)  »
Dear Rootschatters,

I know you are the most helpful and friendly people who are good with the record findings and other things.

I would appreciate your help with finding out which name is her father's: Jeremiah or Timothy

I am trying to find my great great grandmother Johanna Quill's baptism record. Eventually, her parents' death certs.

In 1871, she married my great great grandfather:

http://www.rootschat.com/links/01oeh/

Then, in 1876, she married her second husband:

http://www.rootschat.com/links/01oei/

It reads as Jerry or is it Terry?

The reason I am asking is that I am able to find only a baptism record that fits with her birth year of 1850 as stated on her first marriage record and again, in 1919, her age was 69. Apparently, she knew her birth year.

This baptism record showed that her father is Timothy and Julia Roirdan.

BUT the first letter of her father's name looks like letter J if we were to compare with other "J" on both certificates.

I welcome your expertise and advice.

Kind regards,

Tees

Clare / Question for you regarding returning emigrants-Kilrush O’Dwyers
« on: Tuesday 10 September 19 17:49 BST (UK)  »
Hi Rootschatters,

Before I start looking for baptism and marriage records on my great grandfather’s parents, I have a question that your expertise might help me.

The question is: do the returning emigrants usually return to their native (same) homes that they grew up in? Or living in the different part of the same county?

My great great grandparents left Ireland. I am not sure what year but they did return home after the US Civil War. There was a family story that great great grandfather fought in the Civil War and this was the reason for returning home. They had a son who was born in America. Unfortunately, he did not state where in America on the 1901 Census.

Another question is: Did the emigrants get married first before leaving home or got married in America?

Thank you for your expertise!

Kind regards,

Tees

Dublin / Which death entry is my Great Gran's Father and Grandfather?
« on: Friday 06 September 19 00:30 BST (UK)  »
Hi Rootschatters,

Last month I finally have a breakthrough on my great grandmother's birth record and her family. I managed to trace her family back to 1801.

She was born at Coombe Hospital on 8th February 1873. Her given address is 21 Whitefriars Street.

Her father Mathew Deegan married her mum in 1871. He was a coach maker and that his father is Mathew Deegan, a car owner.

He died between 1871 and 1876. His wife remarried in 1876.

I found two death records on IrishGenealogy but no images. I ordered them and got them.

It turned out both Mathew Deegan(s) are cab man on both records.

One died aged 57 at 21 Whitefriars Street of brain disease.

Other died aged 48 at St. Vincent Hospital. No given address.

I also found a possible grandmother for my great gran as she was named Mary Ann Rose. I tracked down and found one Rose Deegan, who is a widow of carman two streets away, died aged 60 in 1880.

Do you think I get this family sorted out? I think Mathew aged 57 is my great gran's grandfather and her father is Mathew aged 48?

what do you think?

I welcome your constructive feedback or input.

Thanks,

Tees

United States of America / Chuffed that I found my Grandad's family in 1915 NY Census
« on: Saturday 10 August 19 22:21 BST (UK)  »
Hi Rootschatters,

I am chuffed I found my grandad's family in 1915 NY Census!

I knew they were always in Brooklyn.

Found them under a wrong surname--very Italian one, not Irish!!

The rest of details matched up nicely with my family members.

How did I find them?? I just used my Grandad's sister and his parents' first names to input.

Check all the Violets with parents' names. Found them that way.

I still do not understand how my family ended up with this surname??  ???

Also, I am surprised that my great grandmother stated she was born in England?? If that is the case, why did she always listed her birthplace consistently as Ireland?? That means I need some help with searching up on her birth records--that is one I have not found, not yet!

Umm...

Kind regards,

Tees
