Bedfordshire / Burial for my great uncle stephen parker
« on: Monday 02 October 17 15:44 BST (UK)  »
Hi. I have just discovered my great uncle Stephen parker died at 5 days old in the workhouse infirmary in Luton on the 14 th april 1915. Poor wee man had Imperforate anus which i had never heard of till i read his death cert. So i was wandering if anyone had any thoughts where he might be buried. Did the workhouse have a grave yard was there a church yard near by. Im assuming that  he lived long enough to be baptised so he could go in a church yard.
Thanks Tracey

Derbyshire / Death date for Eliza Johnson, formerly gill.
« on: Thursday 20 July 17 19:09 BST (UK)  »
Hi everyone. I wander if i might be able to get some help pinning down the death date for me of my 3 x great granny. I have tried before and had no luck. So i wandered if someone here might see something i am missing for continuously looking and banging my head on the wall. This is her timeline as i have it.
She was born Eliza Calladine 31st May 1846 on Newbold Moor to Jarvis and Eliza nee Bostock (his cousin). They are a family of pot hawkers who would winter in whittington moor derby to buy new stock and then move off come spring moving there way down the country till they got to Wales.
1851 census they are in Llanelly, Breconshire.
1861 census they are in Neath, Glamorgan.
23rd sept 1866 Parish church, Chesterfild marriage to Edward Gill
24th oct 1867 birth of only child Samuel Gill. Unstone.
25th Oct 1871. seperated from Ed. He prosecuted her, her dad, brother Bill and sister Betsy for taking all the household goods after she left him.. He got the lot back.
Jan 8th 1875 whittington Moor she was walking to Unstone when she got robbed.
Oct 5th 1875 court for above.
1881 census she is missing but Edward and Son Samuel are living with his new bigamous wife Sarah in unstone.
Dec 1882 Edward Gill killed in an accident at unstone colliery. Both Eliza and Sarah attended the inquest and funeral as his wife. Newspapers loved that.
3rd Nov 1884 Newbold wedding to William Johnson (father in law of Eliza's brother Charles) he was from another pot hawking family from Whittington moor.
23rd June 1888 Dronfield. As Eliza Gill drunk with a John Cunningham.
7th March 1891 Whittington moor. Eliza Johnson with Matilda Gill (her daug in law) assualted by Henry Harrison, Eliza's sister Jemima's husband.
26th March 1892 Whittington Moor another argument this time with Elijah Hallam her sister Betsey's husband. This time she called herself Eliza Gill.
25th May 1895 Back as Eliza Johnson with John Cunningham again and he beat her up.

Now there is an Eliza Johnson with a husband William in Newbold in the 1881 and 1891 census but i have worked out this Eliza is nee Huff. This lady died in Newbold in 1912.
I have a possible death for her in Derby in dec 1921 bn c1849. Seems possible to me that she stayed in Derby. Her only child Samuel died in 1910 but his partner Matilda and there children stayed in Derby. I can not find her in any census or any thing else about her. Would so like to pin her down. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Tracey

Bedfordshire / Burials from ampthill workhouse
« on: Wednesday 16 March 16 21:30 GMT (UK)  »
Hello. I wander if anyone might have some ideas which I could try next in my search for information on my 3xgg James loveridge. I have discovered via his death cert he died on 23rd April 1881 in the ampthill union workhouse of emphysema. I had contacted the beds records office and had some research done  but sadly the workhouse records have gone. So no help there. I wander where he might have been buried. Any suggestions as to where he could be.also I wander how they missed the census, if it was taken on the 3rd and he was so ill they can't have been far from the workhouse. Yet I have found no trace. They must be hiding very well up some very quite lane .James was bn in bucks in 1813, his partner was Peggy Parker and by then they had, Jane, elisha, fanny, Eliza, Lena, lemuel, Maria and Margaret.
Did the workhouse have a cemetery, was there one near by.any thoughts please. Tracey

Travelling People / James Loveridge and Margaret Parker
« on: Wednesday 24 February 16 19:05 GMT (UK)  »
Hello. hoping for a bit of help. My 3 xg granny Margaret parker has been a bit of a mystery to me. I have been told about her via her son's granddaughter. She was known as peg leg as she was disabled and walked with a crutch. She mostly traveled around the bedfordshire, herts area. I have been unable to find her on any census record and only had her on birth certificates of 2 of her known children Eliza my 2 xgg and solomon her brother. The other children as far as i was aware were Leonard known as Lemi, Mariah,Margaret, Lena and Fanny. I have not been able to find birth regs for any of those. I think Lemi might be a Lemuel parker bn 1875, herts. He uses the name Leonard when he gets married in 1898 to Lemontina Draper but when he passes away he is registered as Lemi Loveridge Parker. I had no idea who the father was. Well i had a brilliant discovery last weekend a newspaper article. I am certain it is my granny peg leg, so i know now she had 2 more children Jane and Elisha and her chap James Loveridge aged 60 in this article, dated 1873. I have had a good look for the family under loveridge, parker, smith under there first names i have looked in villages and towns i know she was in. She died and is buried in Stotfold so i checked there in 01 but no. I have looked just for James but still nothing. There is a possible James who was born in 1813 in Bucks and who died in 1881 in beds. I ordered the death cert and it came today. Unfortunately he died in the work house in Ampthill, Beds so death reported by the master. Very annoying. Is there anyway i can find any more out about him in the workhouse. Perhaps the names of any family.
I have looked for a possible James bn in bucks in 1813 and there is one, the son of Henry Loveridge and Ann Halford. He is shown in the Rtfhs Loveridge fam tree book as having a partner Maria Loveridge his cousin. They had 4 children Milly 1837-1847, Henry 1840, Mirena 1845-1847 and phalender 1851. Ive tried to look for this family on the census and nothing, ive tried to look for Marie maybe dieing but nothing. Im not saying it is the same James but i have to wander 3 of those kids are born and buried in Beds.
So has anyone got any thoughts, or do they know anything about the James son of Henry and Ann. Could he be my James.
What could i try next to find them. his family are driving me potty how they manage to avoid every census. I have Solomon, Eliza, Mariah and Lemi from 01 to 11 but nothing sooner. I dont have anything on Fanny, Elisha or Margaret.
thanks Tracey

The Common Room / "Buried in the Woollen"
« on: Monday 01 February 16 18:32 GMT (UK)  »
Hello. Have been looking at a few burial records for some of my berkshire ancestors and a few of them have "buried in the woollen" in the notes section. Seems to be by the ones in either East or West Illsley. Does anyone have any ideas what it might mean. Its got me really intrigued now.
Thanks Tracey

Derbyshire / william johnson bn c1826
« on: Monday 25 January 16 16:55 GMT (UK)  »
Have spent the weekend searching find my past on there free weekend and i made a discovery. I think my 2 x great granny Eliza Gill nee Calladine married again in 1884 in Newbold, Derbyshire. She is described as a 41 yr old widow. which would be about right as her husband Edward Gill died in 1882 and she was born about 1846. Not that they were together. The father is described as Lewis Calladine her dad's name was Jarvis Calladine but he used different names so that doesnt surprise me. The new husband is a William Johnson son of Joseph aged 54.
I have tried to find a trace of them in the census but i can find nothing. It is possible she was with william before they married. Edward had bigamously married another woman in 1880 so they obviously were not together. Eliza and Ed had one child my great grandad Samuel Gill. I have no idea if she had any other children. I also do not know when Eliza or william died.
I should also point out that Jarvis and Eliza nee Bostock also had a daughter called Elizabeth who was known as Betsey she married an Elijah Hallam.
Ive searched and searched and my head is spinning, im hoping a fresh pair of ideas might see something i havent. Jarvis was a earthenware dealer/pot hawker who spent most winters in Whittington Moor which is think is all in the area of Derby which is where Samuel ended up.
Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks Tracey
