New Zealand / What happened to Amelia Frampton
« on: Tuesday 19 December 23 13:31 GMT (UK)  »
Amelia Shore Eames was born 1842 in Bedminster Bristol England.. Her parents were Lavinia Hill and William Shore Eames who married 14 July 1841 @ St Mary Redcliff Bristol. She had 3 sisters,  Mary Ann, 1842 (my g grandmother) Fanny c 1845 who are both fully researched and Maria c1839 of whom I know little and what I do know is confusing so I am ignoring for the time being.
Amelia was living with an aunt in Bristol in 1851 and a servant in London in 1861.In 1865 she married Thomas Milton Frampton at St John in Bedminster Bristol. They had 4 children all born in the London area:
1866 Eliza Marion, 1870 Charles Edwin, 1872 Thomas Milton, 1876 Ada Elizabeth. On 17 December 1875 they left London on the Waipa arriving in Auckland April 2 1876. All 4 children died before 1912 and Thomas Milton sen died in 1905 and is buried in Waikumete cemetery Auckland.. I am unable to find any trace of Amelia after her arrival in NZ. A passenger list on WikiTree would appear to indicate that she arrived in NZ. What happened to her? For brevity I have not included further details of  her children but am happy to do so.

Worcestershire / George Frederick Miles (1871)
« on: Friday 13 October 23 11:22 BST (UK)  »
George Frederick Miles was baptised in Semley, Wiltshire on 9 April 1871. His parents were William Miles (c1843-1913) and Emma Elizabeth Fry (1842-1910). His birth was registered in the Amesbury district in Jan -Mar quarter 1871. He is in the 1871 census in Semley where is father is the police constable. In 1881 the family are in Kings Norton where William is an “excavator”, George is shown as born Shaftesbury which is clearly wrong.  He had 2 siblings, William (1866-1923) and Tom (1867-1915) who have been satisfactorily researched, as have his parents. Note that his mother was Elizabeth Emma Fry and is recorded under either name at different times. I can find no trace of George Frederick Miles after the 1881 census. I have put this under Worcestershire as this was his last known location. Any help much appreciated.

Warwickshire / Beatrice Miles 1887
« on: Thursday 24 November 22 13:45 GMT (UK)  »
Beatrice Miles was born 03/08/1887 in Kings Norton/ Her parents were Thomas and Laura Lavinia. Her siblings were Tom (1/7/1889) William (23/12/1891) Frederick Arthur (5/9/1893) Ernest 1899. I have satisfactorily traced siblings and parents.
In 1901 the whole family were at 35 Back of Edward Rd Balsall Heath.
On March 27th 1905 Beatrice married John Thomas Baker at the St Thomas in the Moors parish church. He was born in Bodicott Oxfordshire
In 1911 Beatrice & John were with his parents Edward & Charlotte at 29 Jakeman Walk Balsall Heath. There are no children present. The census indicates she has had 3 children 2 alive  one dead.
Her parents and siblings were all at Wenman Street Balsall Heath. No other children present.
In 1907 in Kings Norton a Charlotte Amelia Baker, mother Miles, was born, she died in 1909 and seems likely to be the deceased child. The other 2 children not identified or found in 1911
By 1921 both her parents had died. (the strange circumstances surrounding the death of her father, Thomas Miles, are recorded in the Birmingham Mail July 2nd 1915.)
I thought  I had located Beatrice in 1921 a a boarder at 164 Belgrave Rd Birmingham. There were 3 Baker children with her, Elizabeth May 16y 4m, John T 6y 5m, William A 1y 10 m. Beatrice is shown as a widow. John T Baker, mother Miles b Birmingham q1 1915.  William A Baker, mother Miles, b Kings Norton q3 1919. Register dates tie in with census ages. I can find no birth for Elizabeth May but she may be one of the 2 living children mentioned on the 1911 census. The age on the 1921 census implies she was born Feb/ Mar 1905 and thus highly possible before her mother was married. I have therefore also searched under Miles but nothing found.
In 1939 Beatrice (dob matches) was in Birmingham with son William. She is widowed. Also present are 2 children born after 1921 (as potentially still living I give no details) with mother's name Miles. I have been unable to identify a death for John Thomas Baker.
Any help in clarifying all this and thus preventing the order of lots of certifaicates greatly appreciated.

Roscommon / What is meant by "Cotter"
« on: Monday 01 August 22 15:04 BST (UK)  »
Looking at the 1749 Elphin census under the heading " profession" the term cotter appears. I wonder if this is a peat cutter. Is this correct or is there some other meaning?
Thank you

Technical Help / Copying pictures from camera to PC
« on: Sunday 07 November 21 12:23 GMT (UK)  »
I have a Panasonic FZ 82 camera and Windows 10 on my PC. I have previously transferred  photos/videos fro camera to PC without difficulty. I have done this direct from the camera and using a card reader. The pictures would appear and I would select the files for downloading. Now with both camera and card reader I get nothing. I know the cable and ports are fine as I have tested them with a remote hard disc. Using google for advice has just left me totally bewildered. Any advice gratefully received but please in very simple terms!
Thank you

Roscommon / Mary Kate Campbell b Roscommon town 7 April 1885
« on: Monday 03 May 21 13:58 BST (UK)  »
Mary is the oldest of the 12 children of Henry Campbell and Catherine Mugan. I started researching Mary sometime ago and returning am unable to confirm my original research.
Her date of birth was supplied by a relative and fellow researcher and I am confident it is correct. The birth was recorded in the Apr-Jun quarter of 1885. In 1901 she was with her family in Castle Street, Roscommon town. I then have her going to the USA, New York area, perhaps in 1905 and there marrying a Thomas Healy with whom she had 6 children, c 1913 Josephine, c 1916 Rita
c 1917 Frank, c 1919 Thomas, c 1922 Kathleen c 1927 Thomas  However trying to confirm all this has led me to doubt my findings as I can only find mismatches and I fear I may have fallen into the trap of getting the answer to fit the question. Any information much appreciated.
Please note I do not need any information on her parents and I have the names and dob of her siblings but don't want to confuse matters by adding another 11 names at this stage.

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / My grandmother? Nell Family
« on: Wednesday 24 March 21 13:55 GMT (UK)  »
A long time family friend has sent me this picture. It looks a lot like my mother (1917-2010) but is not. Her mother died in 1932 aged 56. I think it unlikely that this is her as the picture is from a box of UK photos and she lived and died in Ireland. Any thoughts on the date of the photo and the age of the subject much appreciated.
