Family History Beginners Board / Looking for Sarah Turner born 1815, Essex, England
« on: Tuesday 17 December 13 07:06 GMT (UK)  »
I am currently looking for information about the parents & siblings of Sarah Turner who was born in 1815 in Essex - possibly Sandford in Essex?

She married James Newling in 1836 at Ickleton, Cambridgeshire & later emigrated to Australia with her husband & 5 living children in 1854 under a assisted migrant scheme.  The family settled in Scone, NSW.

I have James' ancestors but have no information on Sarah's parents.  Her death certificate lists her parents as unknown. If anyone could help me with this I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you
Vicki

Angus (Forfarshire) / Rev Thomas Alexander Fletcher
« on: Thursday 05 July 12 03:03 BST (UK)  »
My husband's uncle has been researching his father's side of the family & has only been able to get back so far & then comes to a dead end.  He is looking for information on Rev Thomas Alexander Fletcher, from St Andrew's Church, South Tay St, Overgate, Dundee.   His son was William Morris Bresslin Fletcher born in 1822.  William emmigrated to Tasmania, Australia & was married to Sarah Ann Stops.  He died 15 November 1876 & his grandson Frederick William died 8 June 1881 - both in Australia.  Someone had a monument of some kind erected in Scotland for William & his grandson which gives the above information about Thomas.  A few of us have searched from here in Australia & cannot find any more information on Thomas.  We would like to know more about his family & who he married & of other children he had.  If anyone can help with this information it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Australia / Joseph DANKS & Clara WILSON
« on: Thursday 31 May 12 15:12 BST (UK)  »
I'm looking for information on Joseph Danks & Clara Wilson who married in Stockton, NSW in 1891.  I know Clara was the daughter of James & Sarah Wilson & she was born in 1870, Higham, England.  She came from England in 1886 with her parents & siblings aboard the "Aberdeen".  I can't find any other info on Joseph apart from the fact that he died in 1930 at Newcastle aged 64 yrs.  I would like to know what happened to Joseph & Clara & whether they had children, when Clara died, & who his family was, etc.  I would appreciate any help in this regard.

Antrim / William James Hoy & Margaret Hoy nee Orr
« on: Wednesday 28 March 12 00:49 BST (UK)  »
Can anyone help me find how William Hoy & his wife Margaret came to Australia?  Have searched all types of passenger & crew lists to Australia & have been unable to find anything.  They were married in Island Magee in 1882 & believe they left fairly soon after this to travel to Australia.  Their first child Maggie McAllister Hoy was born in Australia mid 1883.  This narrows down time period for their travel but this doesn't seem to help.

William was a mariner (he was a hero on the ill-fated SS Atlantic) & he had a brother Samuel who went to live in NZ.  I even thought he may have come to Australia via NZ.  If anyone can help with this mystery I would very much appreciate it.

Would also like any more infor on William's grandfather Joseph Hoy who was born 1771 in Ireland & died 31 Aug 1835, Antrim County.  I can't find out anything about his wife or if there were anymore children other than his son James born 1816.

Thanks Vicki

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Family of James & Sarah Wilson
« on: Friday 16 March 12 05:22 GMT (UK)  »
I am currently trying to find out about my maternal Grandmother's father's family.  He was George Wilson born c. 1879, Carlton, Yorkshire?  His parents were James Wilson (bn c.1852, Barnsley, Yorkshire) & Sarah Jane Gledhill (bn c. 1853 West Riding, Yorkshire).  I know James was a coalminer & Sarah was a linen weaver).

I would like to find out some more about James Wilson.  It is believed that his parents were John & Elizabeth Wilson.  He emigrated to Australia with his wife & 5 children, arriving in Sydney on the "Aberdeen" 15 April 1886.

Does anyone have an further insights.  Were John & Elizabeth Wilson his parents?

Devon / BLAXELL Family
« on: Wednesday 14 March 12 01:10 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,
I'm researching my great grandmother's family - the Blaxell's.  She was Margaret Blaxell born in Newcastle, Australia in 1884.  Her father was Allan Blaxell (born 1838, Portsea Island, Hampshire, England) who was the son of John May Blaxell born 1801, Devonport, Devon & Frances Chappell (born c. 1805, England).  Allan  & his brother Henry Rous Blaxell both emigrated to Australia as young men. Their father John May Blaxell was a shipwright & a carpenter with the RN. Hid forefathers were the Blaxells from the Stoke Damerel area.  I have managed to find ancestors back to William Blaxell born c. 1680.   Margaret married George Wilson born c. 1879 (Son of James & Sarah Wilson) from the Yorkshire area.

I would appreciate any help about finding more on the Blaxell family.

Thanks Vicki
