This is a burial entry from the the register of All Saints Newcastle upon Tyne, 1 April 1676.

It reads:

1 Infant son of Anthony Grant wat [waterman]

there are two words following that I can't make sense of, they look like' Cohurh deffrs'

Can anyone help?

This is from the baptismal register of All Saints, Newcastle upon Tyne 1679. It's two words detailing the occupation of the father. The second word is obviously 'merchant' but I can't make out the first word. Can anyone help?

I am currently transcribing the Marriage register of All Saints Church, Newcastle upon Tyne and have come across an entry where the groom has an occupation I have never before encountered [see image].

It appears to read 'Thomas Milburne Lettonmaker' or possibly 'Lottonmaker'.

Has anyone come across this before and/or can anyone help explain what this occupation was?

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Help needed with abbreviation in burial records

I am working on the burial register of All Saints church in Newcastle upon Tyne. In the 1620s I have found a number of entries which have the letters 'nob' between the occupation or marital state and the word 'buried'. I attach an example:

'Phillis Stevenson spinster nob'

Can anyone help to explain what these letters stand for?

I am currently transcribing the Baptism register for Hexham in Northumberland. I'm working on the mid 1600s and I occasionally find a contraction I haven't come across before. it always seems to occur in the list of witnesses and I attach an example.

Can anyone tell me what this stands for?

I attach an extract from the Stannington Northumberland Marriage Register.

The entry reads:

'James Johnson & Barbara Newton'

This is followed by two words, one above the other. The lower one appears to be 'married' but I can't make out the upper one. All the other entries simply have 'married'.

Can anyone suggest a reading?

It appears to read

A nabertiue of Mr. Daniel Craister

or

An abertiue of Mr. Daniel Craister

Any ideas?

I am transcribing a parish register from 1698 and have come across a word with a contraction mark in it, it's 'p[mark]man. I wonder if anyone can help me with this.

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Where was New Holland?

In the 1841 census, my great great grandmother, Charlotte Beardmore was living with her widowed mother in New Holland, Masbrough in Kimberworth parish by Rotherham. I can find Old Holland on maps and I can find Holland Street but no trace of New Holland. Can anyone help? There is one clue, immediately before enumerating New Holland, the census taker was in College Road and immediately after New Holland was in Old Holland. I suspect that New Holland may have become Chemist Lane. See attached map
