London and Middlesex / Wapping Marriage Licences
« on: Wednesday 14 July 21 20:15 BST (UK)  »
Evening all,

Does anyone know if marriage licences are viewable online?

I have banns from 1774 of
William Brown and Mary Moore.

They were married 10th September 1774. under Licences and the witnesses were William and Mary Moore (presumably her parents).

I'm looking for more info on William and Mary's parents and ancestors.

Thanks in advance.

England / WDYTYA: Inspiration Help
« on: Sunday 11 July 21 14:43 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,

OK so I have been watching WDYTYA and the one of them was the Danny Dyer one.

In the middle the subject was on the English Civil War. It was said anyone of full age in the 1640s and 1650s would have had to have fought on one of the sides.

I've never thought much of the Civil war and it's affect on my family.

I have utterly no idea how to find out if any of mine were involved.

John Feldwick 1611-1662 of West Hoathly, Sussex.
John Gibb married 1634 Balcombe, Sussex.

Whilst I doubt I'll get back any further It'd be nice to know if they had any involvement.

Thanks for any help.

« on: Saturday 10 July 21 17:30 BST (UK)  »
Afternoon one and all,

A plea for help.

Looking at the parish of Stonesfield, Oxfordshire I am after the addresses that the wife's ancestors may have lived.

1831: No address listed (Can't remember where on earth I located this info)
1841: No address listed.
1851: No address listed.
1861: Census destroyed ?
1871: No address listed.
1881: Possibly listed as Church Street but I cannot locate the entry on Ancestry. (RG11/1511.      Folio 93     Page 7.     Schedule 38.)

Where can I locate the addresses of the families there ?

Thanks in advance

EDIT: Sorry it is for the family name is Oliver (Robert, Susanna, Mark, James, Jane)

England / Maria Damer: Baptism Brickwall
« on: Saturday 19 June 21 12:02 BST (UK)  »
hi all,

I've been searching for Maria Damer's birth/Baptism for some time.

These are the facts I know so far:

1779: Approx. year of birth/baptism.
1814: Married to Robert Jenkins St. Mary's Lambeth, Surrey, England as a spinster.
1838: Died as Maria Jenkins aged 59 on 28-Jan at Davys Buildings, Westminster, Middlesex, England.
1838: Buried 4-Feb in St. Margaret's, Westminster, Middlesex, England.

I've search a lot but I cannot locate a birth/baptism at all.
I've tried Ancestry, FindMyPast, and FamilySearch and FreeReg.

Because she died before the 1841 census (why do all the hard ones do that?) I can't even work out if born in county.

Any help gratefully received.

Neil.

Norfolk / Norfolk research info
« on: Saturday 05 June 21 08:49 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,

I’m planning a trip to Norfolk (and a little bit of Suffolk) for later this year – Covid permitting.

This branch of the family I have not really spent a lot of time researching and I know little of the area, well apart from a trip in the late 80s to Great Yarmouth for the first holiday with the girlfriend now wife.

Based on what I know so far, is it possible to located where these ancestors lived? Farms, houses, streets etc.?

Here is a list of the people, dates and parishes I have to work with:

Judith Nicholls:
Bap: 28 Jan 1798 St Peter’s, Weston, Suffolk
Father: William Nicholls
Mother: Elizabeth Thirkettle

William Nicholls
Bap: 10 Jun 1759 St. Margaret, Cantley, Norfolk
Father: Robert Nichols
Mother: Mary Dawes

Mar: 21 Jan 1783 Burlingham, St. Edmund, Norfolk
SP: Elizabeth Thirkettle

Elizabeth Thirkettle
Bap: 20 Jun 1764 All Saints, Beighton, Norfolk
Father: Richard Thirkettle
Mother: Mary Shrieve

Richard Thirkettle
Marriage: 7 Nov 1763 • Upton, Norfolk, England
Spouse: Mary Shrieve

Mary Shrieve
Bap: 13 Jan 1745 • Upton, Norfolk, England
Father: Nicholas Shreive
Mother: Elizabeth ?

Nicholas Shrieve
Bap: 10 FEB 1701 Stokesby, Norfolk
Father: Johannes (John) Shreeve
Mother: Elizabetha

Martinus Shreeve
Marriage: 8 Oct 1657 Pockthorpe, Norwich, Norfolk
Spouse: Thomasina Palmer

Thanks for any help you can give me.

Norfolk / Pockthorpe, Norfolk
« on: Saturday 05 June 21 06:36 BST (UK)  »
Morning all,

I wonder if anyone can hep me with this query.
I have a marriage of Thomasina Palmer to Martinus Shreeve on 8 Oct 1657 in Pockthorpe, Norwich, Norfolk, England.

So a Google of Pockthorpe church hasn't revealed much. Possibly it maybe in Norwich itself or an outlying village

I've looked at:
http://www.norfolkchurches.co.uk/norfolkindex.htm lovely resource.
dioceseofnorwich.org < hopethis would be of use but not really.
https://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/NFK/indexpars < Can't find it here either

Is the church still in existence?

Thanks in advance.

England / WWII Royal Artillery
« on: Saturday 20 March 21 17:34 GMT (UK)  »
Hope this helps someone.

On the left is my Granddad David Harris.
The photo was taken in Whitby North Yorkshire at Doran Bros.

He was part of the Royal Artillery stationed at Selly Hill Camp.

The gentleman on the right is Andy Prentice. He was a friend of my Granddad during WWII.

Don't know is anyone is researching Andy but if they are I hope this helps.
